I guess walking the dog, going for a jog and being the meter reader don't work so well as observation methods in LOS as they might in farangland.
Tell me TPEII when the compressor motor on an old model refrigerator cuts in late at night does it still make a sound, over the listening device, that is identical to a shot-gun being cocked? Ah memories. Enjoy.

Minder, you are bang on the nail with "sitting in the passengers seat". But here in LOS it is a lot easier to sit unobserved in a veh with blacked out/mirrored windows.
Plus here you don't have to worry about the local dogs picking up your scent or hearing a movement inside the veh and barking at you. They are too busy looking for food and dodging Tuk Tuk's...
You do have to worry about those F****G motorbike taxi drivers and the local food sellers though. They have eyes everywhere... Once you are on station you can't move so forget stepping out for a smoke
I have had some real heart stopping moments when the target (Thai Guy) parks right next to me, and starts looking out of his window in my direction, deep in his own thoughts.
Probably wondering how to get even more money off his TGF that just happends to be married to my client a Farang...
This guy was totally oblivious that I am zooming in from less than 2Mts away and can see the hairs up his fuking nose...
Then when she (Clients wife) walks right past me and gets in the passengers side and they both drive off into the sunset back to his place, my job is done...I love it when a plan comes together...
I would really love one of those new VW vans one sees driving around BKK but its not practical and too much money.
So I have to settle for a used.... Sorry can't tell you or I'll have to kill you...
As far as the old fridge motor kicking in I know what you mean... But I have to say we don't plant listening devices at all. Especially in private property. I have no desire to end up in a Thai prison cell... 
You would be surprised at how many times we get asked to break into a TG's apartment and plant a bug, or a hidden camera. Not me thanks...
But I have to admit it would be fascinating to see what they get up to and to hear what they say about thier (so called) Tirak.. Maybe I should re-consider...

But in my honest opinion there are just too many limitations with the “Q phone” I don’t think 007 will want one…
•The high cost initially 12,000 – 1,500 USD$
•The old style model. Give that to a TG and she will sell it for a few Baht before you have unfastened your seatbelt on the way home, then tell you she lost it …
•I did not see where it explains that if she was on the phone, you could call in and overhear her conversation!
•So I assume you can only use it as a listening device when YOU call the phone! Not when she is on the phone talking to her many boyfriends, sponsors, gik’s, girlfriends and others…
•The cost of the calls you make to the Q Phone on the off chance you will hear something juicy will be horrendous.
•Plus don’t forget that when most TGF’s are with their other “boy$$$friend’s” they turn off their phones most of the time…
•You could possibly sit there dialing for hours and hours while the TGF is bent over in the shower.
•Or call her while the phone is in the next room inside her large, closed handbag covered over by a fresh change of underwear that most carry with them.
• They write: “The Q-Phone has built in super sensitive microphones which allows (allow) you to hear any sound in the vicinity of the phone.”
How far away is a vicinity?
•I don’t care how sensitive the microphones are, if they are inside a TG’s handbag then the conversation will be muted at best.
•There is a use for this kind of equipment in a controlled environment such as to monitor the conversation in a home or an office etc, but that’s illegal…
And come one guys be a bit more adventurous with your internet marketing blurb:

A taxi yellow / green OR blue/red stopped for hours at a time,, not suspicious,,,LOL. Nearly as inconspicuous as a Black 4 wheel drive  OR a big white van.

Come on guys give me a break..
I wrote:
(a) Set up a remote controlled video camera/ recorder and monitor the scene from a second vehicle in a secure location.
(b) Rotate the vehicles every 3-4 hours to retrieve the recorded footage and to conduct an equipment check, etc...
(c) Never ever sit there in a static vehicle for more than 30 mins...
