On the other hand I've never been to SURIN province. I think they have a famous elephant show, which is a nice attraction, right? However, I've been to Si Sa Ket a couple of times and I remember that the train stopped in Buriram prov. and Surin prov. before I arrived....not sure....

Ah, the Surin Islands! Sorry, I forgot about those...never been, but I have heard they are beautiful diving spots.
Don't know why they couldn't have put Surin Province over by those islands! Save guys like me a lot of trouble...

Ah Surin .... Many years ago ran the huge Thong Tarin hotel there, probably the only place in the Province a farang would want to stay for long, in fact at that time, only place in Isarn ! Some good nightclubs nearby, the place rocks, many dubious MPs and restaurants where the singers are available ... worth a look if you are there is the silver making village, "ban khao sirinin" and also the Khamen ruins/temples in the area, the best actually in neighbouring buriram, Khao Phanom Rung. Train is OK, but I believe they have finally, just opened an airport ... ? - there is also an Airport in Buriram, but about a 60 km drive to Surin from there. If you rent a car in Bangkok, not too bad a drive, about 5 hours, head to korart, but turn off towards chok chai about 50 kms before hitting Korart township - this road takes you to Prasart, an outlying district of Surin - where actually, when its open, is a border crossing / casino to Cambodia, at chong Jom.

Ummmm ... lets say if you are going to Surin, or even nearby Buriram/Sisaket, its probably the place to stay. It has a large nightclub, MP out the back also - but actually the trendy area/nightclubs, are in a laneway about 100 yards down the road. Owing to the number of TGs from Surin who seem to end up in Bangkok Bars, you do see a number of farangs in the town thesedays, - so although hardly worth a special trip, think you would have a bit of fun there, Thong Tarin rooms are around 1200 a night, comfortable, and good by upcountry standards, the only other place worth a look would be the Petchkasem Hotel, - right in the center of the town, the Thong Tarin is about a km from the central area. As mentioned, the silver village is good, about 20ks out, I know of a few Guys who buy jewellery there, and sell it overseas at a god profit.

Agreed, Khao Phanom Rung ruins are really worth the stop. Quite lovely, was there last February. Recommend 'em if one is in the area.

Guys, I’d like some advice. I was talking this morning to a girl I met in Thailand. I’m not saying tgf because we only spent three days together—three glorious, blissful, sorry-I-am-staring-at-you-constantly-but-you’re-so-unbelievably-gorgeous days laughing and playing. Okay, lets say tgc(rush).
Anyhow, she teaches up north and this morning she says: “Rimi, when you come Thailand again I want you meet my family.” Of course, I agree. I like her a good deal and would love to go upcountry to meet the family and see what life is like there. I always prefer to hang with as many locals as possible when I travel and figure this would be a great opportunity.
Now I’ve read ABC’s post and am worried she might think we are more involved than I do. If I go, am I betrothed to this girl? I care for her very much, but I am not in a position to date her, much less marry her. Ultimately, I would love the experience, but I do not want to mislead her or cause her to lose face in the future. Her English is pretty good and we communicate okay, but there is still a huge language and culture gap.
How can I see the countryside with her and not become engaged? Should I reserve this type of sightseeing for solo flights?
I’ve read and enjoyed Nokna’s posts on such forays and don’t want any family members watching me get a bj and I don’t want to get stabbed by her husband. JK, Nokna, couldn’t help it. The “I meet the girl (day 2,697)” post was too damn funny, . . .as are yours. Any comments or help from the brothers would be appreciated.
BTW, I’m not worried about the money thing. I do not sponsor her, but would not mind. If it helps her, I’d go for it. (20,000bht ABC? Wow. Maybe the money thing does worry me a bit).

IMHO.......IF you go to meet the family, everyone involved (except you) will expect much more than you might be willing to give, and your girl WILL lose face if you do not deliver.
Don't go! Travel with her in another part of the country.....just the two of you.
When and if you decide that you want to sponsor her, marry her, or whatever; THEN go with her to her village and make her proud.
I had a similar experience in China.......met a wonderful girl there......came back to visit her a few months later and I found out one week before my trip that an engagement party was being planned. It took a lot of dancing around for me to get out of it wihout anyone losing face; but I lived to laugh about this now (Still Single) 555
