Well, as someone who's been in Dubai for a while, I can say that I think you're all about half right and half wrong. First of all...'Muslim country' v. 'Islamic country'--same same. Semantics, really. We all have a general idea of what that means: a country where Islam is the dominant influence on a country's culture and/or legal code. But keep in mind that what that Brit guy got busted for is also an offense in many, many other non-Muslim countries. Generally speaking, 'obscene' materials should not be carried across borders. I also saw the news item that was mentioned in the first post of this thread and I laughed out loud, because two weeks before I had brought in twice the number of porn DVD's from BKK (around 40) and didn't get caught (but I was well aware of the risk). After spending ten glorious days in LOS, I have now returned to my other LOS (Land of Scowls) here in the Mideast. But fortunately Dubai is unlike any other destination in the region--a quick scan of the Dubai forum should convince anyone of that. Anything goes here, as long as you don't piss off the wrong people. Thaid Up-- You're right about more and more Arabs showing up in BKK, especially along the lower sois of Sukhumvit. I think the reason is because it's close to Bumrungrad Hospital, a major destination for Gulf Arabs who have loads of cash but little access to decent health care in their own countries. They flock to BKK hospitals, usually for diabetes treatment. And of course when one person goes, the whole family/entourage must accompany. I was disappointed at seeing so many Arabs in Bangkok because 1) That's the culture I was trying to take a break from!! and 2) I'm sorry... but the thought of one of those delicate Thai flowers being soiled by an Arab guy just makes my stomach churn. If you live in this part of the world for awhile you'll understand why. ( I know, I sound like a racist bastard, let the flames begin!) But it's interesting to compare the two cultures when they're thrown together. It really puts into focus how absolutely dysfunctional Arab cultures have become. Unfortunately, 'Muslim/Islamic' countries have to figure that out for themselves; no one else can do it for them.

Cannibal You could also add the reason of "western countries tightening up their visa procedure in general and for arabs and othere residents of middle east belonging to the particular religion Bigbeefa Evidence room does have a TV & DVD player but the booty collected every day is shared by the captors at the end of every shift (of course not officially). So the mess would happen elsewhere. LOL! Regards

No, you don't - not to me, at least. I understand.

You think? Actually, just for fun, would you care to share some thoughts on that, please?
