Guess if I don't like it there is a possibility I could hook you up with a nice Thai programmer who might do this as a side project to her full time job. But ONLY if you promise to be nice as some might think she's cute, lol.
I could do all the stuff for your computer as well, but that stuff is boring to me so no discounts. 1,500 baht per hour minimum for generic PC stuff. At that price, my door can hardly withstand the clamor for my services!!!

Thought I'd follow up on this thread as I was contacted through it and the person/company ( ? gimme a break buddy) kindda disappeared in the meantime.
Here's the project I received on 16th August... most mails and phone calls came back late and I should have given up from the beginning.
yet here it is:
*******My thoughts are that it would be easiest to do in Excel.
I would use Visual Basic to program a fully automated system inside the Excel application. This will not just be a spreadsheet, but an application that uses the Excel environment. I will use custom built visual basic screens and Excel to do the following:
•Inventory
oKeep track of your inventory
oAllow merging of parcels
oSorting of data
•Customers
oCustomer information (address, phone #, etc…)
oSales
Historic sales, net profit, and profit per karat on a customer and aggregate basis
oOutstanding balance on a customer and aggregate basis
•Sales/Invoicing
oSales
Automated selection of customer
Automated selection of inventory to sell
Automated deduction from inventory
Historic sales, net profit, and profit per karat data
oInvoicing
Automatic creation of invoicing for printing
•This includes adding TVA where applicable
•This includes select payment terms and payment due date
List of outstanding (unpaid) invoices
•List/Reports
oInventory
Current Inventory
Inventory sales to Memo account
Import List (generate list for customs that detail parcels on person)
COSTS
My fee for this would be 40,000 baht + expenses. Expenses consist only of long distance phone calls that you specifically require me to make outside of the country (if any) and to cover taxi fare for our future meetings.
Payment is due as follows:
•5,000 baht payable upfront before work begins (can transfer into my bank account via ATM)
•15,000 baht payable AFTER you receive the first version and have confirmed it meets the deliverables outlined in the “Gem Project” above.
oFrom receipt of the model, you have 1 week to confirm that it meets the deliverables and to remit 15,000 baht or explain why the model is inadequate
•20,000 baht balance is payable after you accept the finished product
oAfter I deliver the first version, you will probably have small revisions and requests. Reasonable modifications and additions will be accepted. Program will be revised as directed. When you are happy with the product then the final payment is due.
TIMETABLE
I understand you want the inventory ability, specifically the list for importing/customs ASAP. I can write a very basic form of this in a few days.
I can deliver the first version in a couple of weeks. After you submit your comments, I expect it would be another week of back and forth (programming the revisions and submitting it back to you etc…) until we reach the final product. *******
******Just read the timetable, it's a joke, every step lasted over a month and 6 months later the software is still an unpractical piece of crap, using precious hours of french staff who are not costing as little as a lousy BKK based programmer. It appeared soon that project was way beyond his abilities and while the bloke first answered one out of 5 calls he now stopped completely.
The company is called Fin-it solution it seems so if you receice a PM from Gummigut offering his service... well think instead about using the money in any massage parlour... much more useful...

From what I see most of what is descibed above can be accomendated from a basic accounting program like Quickbooks. To write a custom application (i.e. VB on top of Excel) is absurd and given the price quoted of 40K THB should have sent out warning signs of a piece of crap coming your way. I guess you got what you paid for. Seems like it wil never get Fin It!

We have specialised softwares in France that go for around 5000 euros, might need one soon... but would rather opt for a cheaper option.
Besides Gummigut has been active on various boards for years and never read complains about his integrity... Never read any report on his work either I'm afraid... it looks like he'd better stick to snooker. If some asian american guy comes to any of you guys offering his IT service... well drop me a PM to check if we're not talking about the same one...better to avoid...

Yes, in fact we run both our Sing and Thai operations on it, however our USA operations have outgrown it an moved up to a larger, more custom system abiet at a higher cost.
You can start with a program like that and move to something more specialised to your business as you grow and can afford the investment.

i am using quickbooks premier 2004 in my hong kong office, in my factories in China and in Thailand.
I love the program. absolutely brilliant.
I am even using it with remote desktop connection to check my inventories etc.

Googled Quickbooks and noticed it's selling for only 50$ to 200$. Anyone else using that software?? Is it really enough to deal with the project above?? will get a copy to begin with anyway, that Gummigut software is getting ridiculous!!

if only one user, you can buy a working version in fortune tower it mall for 100 baht
if multi user, you need to buy the official version.
it can do anything you want. I am keeping track of all my inventory worldwide with it and we ship about 400 containers a month.
besides that I am using it as my complete integrated trading and accounting program. so everything is run through quickbooks. If anybody wants to have a live demonstration, you can sent me a message and come to GLOW Sukhumvit soi 23. http://www.glowbkk.com
i will go into my server in Hong Kong from the bar with my laptop and show you inventories etc.
