ducksnutz, Where did you find that. Last time I had to fly back to Sydney just to buy a jar. At USD600 per jar, f***en expensive, but offset by a few days in BKK. Not in Soi 5 Foodland, ????????????

Your bang on Lofty....I am currently in a job where I earn the same sort of salary that I do at home....similar to yours.....but in real terms it's much bigger. There is no point in sacrificing the decent lifestyle just to be here...one of the beauties is little or no financial worries.

The trouble is Yurine, I end up coming to loss at least every three months. So the bloody cost of flying is expensive. I would be quite willing to settle for a salary in LOS of half of what I get here in the UK. Most of the Jobs now advertised state that they want Thai Nationals. It is part of this 26 areas of work that the Thai government say should be done by Thai Nationals which is so wide as 'Finance', 'Engineering' etc. The only way generally is to work for a multi national company that will post you in LOS or SEA. I have for short periods worked abroad with my Company here in the UK such as USA and even Armenia. But as I work in the Nuclear Industry (although I am not a physisist) there is no way I will get to SEA unless it is Korea. Come on you expats give us exiles from LOS a clue, other than buy a bar what do you reckon would be the best type of business venture to invest in. My area of expertise ranges from Procurement, Supply chain and logistics to Quality, Environment and Health and safety. I am a pretty good manager though I say it myself.

You gotta be careful with that assumption, when you are working with Thais. You do need to be flexible though and learn to understand them.

Lofty I know a guy who's father-in-law used to work at the armenian plant. small world you might check out the energy industry in China, or logistics in singapore. Singapore doesn't have the out-in-the-open bar girl scene of thailand, but it's easy to head up on weekends and such. Singapore government is very welcoming to expats and entrepreneurs.

Why do people think it's so hard? It's not hard to find opportunities here. It might be hard to find a well-paying job here, but that's not the same thing. You just need to be here and suss the scene out yourself. From my limited perspective there are literally dozens of business opportunities (some currenty existing and for sale and others yet to be exploited) for a smart hardworking fellow. This is a developing economy remember. Developing economies have more opportunities for entrepeneurs than developed economies.
