Supposably the "Rule of thumb" came from from the maxium size of the switch which you could beat your woman with. No bigger then your thumb.

Cerberus you're perfectly right: I'm most of all visiting the bars (beer bars and gogo's) because in these places I have as much time as I need to find out certain details about the girls. Are they tender, how's their skin, their English, their alc level, their personality, their attitude etc. Bottom line: how's the chemistry between the two of us.
I don't go to MP often because they first of all lack this get-to-know-her option. It's like with all my former European brothels where you walk in and have to decide in an instant if you like it/them/one or not. Bad situation, not playful at all... And in the best case in Europe its all over after some 15 or maximum 30 minutes - poor to say the least...
So I love Thailand! Here I normally spend the whole night with contacting, flirting, having fun with the girls from lets say 9pm to 1am+ and somewhere in between I make my choice very spontaneously - or go to see my regulars. It's feels like bathing in beauty, isn't it? And if not - there is always another option in Bangkok nights... Or another night comming, and I'm lucky not to be on a short vacation f***-as-much-as-you-can program...
It can be a king-size feeling to call it a day/night and head to your home for nothing else than a relaxing little nap after a fun night out in BKK... only recommended for some Expat typo situation though...
Btw, Hyper, don't you think Bash has improved his postings significantly recently - at least I'm reading them now...

A true rule is this:
"never bar fine a girl with wet hair"
with that said it really depends. When I was a local, my mates and I would agree with "dont ever take them the first time" and "never take the hottest one right away, clock watchers we call them"
however, when my friends would visit from the states for like a week or so and hadnt had a hottie since college (or marraige) then I would definitly say pick the hottest one you see for the early evening ST then have a cool 7 or 8 to as a dependable backup for LT.
I also am mixed on telling my friends that are on holiday if they should take a BG with them for their 3 to 4 day jaunts to samet or ko chang. Of course not to Samui or Phuket, but Samet and Chang its a bit different call.

My "trick" is to go for nice girls as in a nice personality I mean. I try to avoid the overly tatooed ones because they are hardcore hookers most of the time. So it is not about beauty, but attitude.
The rule of thumb is to look into their eyes.
If you see a nice "innocent" girl inside then she is a winner, if you see a stone cold bitch inside you move on.
The upside to this methode is that I never ever had any trouble with my girl. So it is almost only good times. the downside to this is you will often miss the pornstar quality kind of girl. So if that is what you are looking for you should do your bitches ST and your innocents LT.
That sounds like the best of both worlds and it works. It is all about the eyes.

In agreement with BS & Mick,
The eyes have it as far as I am concerned, cliche but mostly true "eyes are the mirror of the soul"; and "let them find you" "they know what they like", but avoiding the maddening power sellers works for me.
A P4P bar environment suits my somewhat laid back (maybe lazy) M.O.
I don't hunt freebies as I am alo in that demograpghic "good looking gentleman in early fifties" LOL, another cliche " beauty is in the eye of the beholder"; and couldn't be bothered with the challenge...the economics are no better either in the long run.
The Rule of Thumb that I would add is "when you're on a good thing stick to it (or in it as the case may be) ". Once I find a good 'chemistry' P4P girl I always go back for more. However, it is important that the 'butterfly allowed parameters' agreement is in place from the outset.....saves hassles later.

I never had a problem with any girl LT as long as I paid up to 2500 baht.
I am not "shining my apple" but being a young 30ish expat exec I never had any problem with LT at under 3000baht, especially since poom pood thai jet sip ha.
I will say that I never contributed to the price hike that many holidayers do. I would never ever pay more than 3K LT and that was for the tip top.

I think alot of the problems with Bgs giving a high "rate quote" is too many guys just say ok to that first salvo. If I get a 2500-3000B LT quote, I give a little laugh and say no, just for one night, not two, and smile. I also give a little lowering motion with my hand. A bit of joking as you try to negotiate lower is pretty effective in my experience. Don't be afraid to walk away and find one of the other 1000's of girls available. Also give her a try on a night or two later, if you walked before.
