I'm a bit confused. Have no objections to supporting the site financially, but this has all been a bit adhoc.
Is it now decided that donations are the way to go? Will that remain in place? Will it become a paid site? Are we relying on our genersoirty, or is there going to some more structured approach where we know what membership means?
What's the story morning glory?
Much as I admire the sentiment of this thread, it would be more useful if BK clarified exactly what the situation is going forward.
Also...how does one make a contribution? I can't see any links.

Yes you have to sign up for paypal. Not sure if you have to do that first or not as I already was signed up for paypal?
Should be somewhere on the paypall page that says sign up for paypall or join paypall something like that.
Ok just checked using another browser. Yes you need to sign up. Upper right corner says sign up in the error you are getting
scobie click the last 25 page and on the right you will notice a paypal donate blue square button. Under it is a link to the donors list. Who and how much the member has donated.
I think BK put it up as a lot of people asked for it. Only time will tell how it works out or if it doesn't work out.

I clicked it. It's a list of donors. All very nice and chummy etc, but it doesnt say how to donate.
I want to support the site. And I'm happy to do it financially. But what does a donation mean? To be frank, it feels kinda patronising and condescending to BK to just 'give money out of the kindness of one's heart.'
A lot of people have a lot of views on the subject. The only thing missing is the view of the main man himself. Is it membership? Is it donation? What does membership mean?
There has been talk of discounts and suggestions of behind the scenes negotiations. Great news - but are they for donors or members or what?

Scobie - as has been pointed out, click on the 'Last 25' link, find the PayPal graphic in the upper, right-hand top, and click on the graphic that says 'PayPal Donate' -- it will take you to the appropriate PayPal page.
I'm confused as to your questions regarding what you get out of it - it's quite clearly labeled as a 'donation', and a 'donation', by default, is the opposite of a 'transaction'. In other words, it is quite truly 'out of the goodness of one's heart', and there is hardly anything condescending about it.
I tried to make that very clear in my original post, by explaining that to me, it's about supporting my friends. I do not expect anything material in return, no membership, nor any other privileges of any kind. Seems pretty easy to me.

To make it easier to "donate", the link is now available on all pages of the threads.
As the membership system is not finalized yet, as there are many options to consider... use new software (e.g. Invision Board?) or fix the security issues with the current software (iKonboard), multiple ignore feature (?), pricing structure, membership benefits, etc.
Since the Paypal account is finally in place, might as well start with the donation mode. For those who have already donated, Thank you very much and I will be working out something for you guys when you get here.

Why donate?
1. How about a high signal to noise ratio?
2. Decent Admin who keeps things humming nicely.
3. Valuable info.
And for me, the fact that he did not beg. For us DXB´ers BK has always gone above and beyond, the very least I can do is buy him a "virtual beer."

I too have added my voice on the quality of BTF in a PM to BK.
I believe that by doing this we can only make the whole operation better.
BTW: What ever happened to the BTF bar idea put forward by Vancouver Jay a few years ago. Now that we have some experienced enteprenuers set up in BKK maybe we can re-look at this idea...
Disclaimer: Although you have proven to have some class Duck you are still considered a threat to the security of the United States as a potential carrier of Avian Flu. The slaughter order approved by the Administration last month still stands

Actually I made my donation for what I have already gotten from this site. Not for what it may offer in the future. BK you held my hand and walked me through the airport to the taxi line. You told me where to stay and where to have fun and where to be careful. And there was something about a naked dance contest at midnite bar but I can't remember all the details.
