This isnt funny but is good..I just went and had a beer with a friend as he was getting off work and I came home 40 minutes later with the smell of Ka Pow Kai permiating (sp?) the house.. Mrs Atl had cooked up Ka Pow Kai that would put most restaurants in LOS to shame...LS, Mel, Emerald, Minder and Balls and others we are fortunate... we get a small feeling of LOS even in the days we spend dreaming of our next trip.... I guess the bro's living over there can get a white stirefoam box of "ahan" for 40 baht...so maybe thats better but us in farangland it is nice.... atl

Quote: from atl on 7:26 am on Dec. 20, 2007 mrs atl says to me this morning "tilac, why does everyone say happy holidays on tv and radio (she streams radio on computer) and not melly clistmas?" I say "well its so they do not offend people that are not christian."
Not wanting to offend others may be part of the reason, but it is also because there are other holidays about the same time, such as Kwanzaa (a week-long festival celebrated primarily in the United States, honoring African American heritage that is observed from December 26 to January 1 each year) or Hanukah (late November to late December), and even New Years Day. The first time I came to BKK (which happend to be around Christmas time) the hotel staff greeted me with "Merrry Christmas", which was the last thing I wanted to hear having just spend a lot of time and money traveling to LOS to experience a different culture (OK, and to get laid).

atl, Yep, I am looking forward to my TGF cooking here in the States. I've found a couple of Thai restaurants in my new locale, so I'll take her to these when she gets here so she can get the scoop on where to buy local ingredients for her cooking. My favorite is her crab curry dish (pronounced "caab cuellie", with a rising tone on "caab" lol). She told me a funny story about her last week or so working at the restaurant in December in BKK. The owner of the place is a nitwit, and the cook seems to know only the few specific dishes on the menu. So when a customer came in and asked for crab curry, she had to show the cook how to make it. They didn't know how to cook it or what to do, so she told them to 1st boil the crab and then she'd shuck it and mix and cook the curry. They told her she could cook the whole thing herself, but she said, "No, I Buddha, cannot kill caab!" So they dropped it in the boiling water and then she finished the job. She also ate some of it, as it's her favorite dish. The customer apparently really liked it too. I can smell it now just thinking about it... - Balls

Yikes! Talking to my boss about work tomorrow and the current weather situation in Georgia, U.S.A. and my wife picks up the other cordless phone and says "Honey how long you talk on phone. I need to call my daaaaaddddddy." We have about 1 inch of snow in Georgia at the moment and my wife and daughter have both been outside a couple of times. Funny that she wanted to see snow and only spent a couple of minutes outside because it was just TOO COLD. LS

LS, you beat me to the punch bro..."mrs atl calls me and is so excited and an says "Tilac it snow outside and is so beautiful" I pick her up from work and she is elated saying "the snow is so beautiful, I love it!" then when she finds out her place of work might be closed says "I love snow but I do not want to stay home from work.." how cute that is...and others might not know in the south if we get 2 inches of snow the place shuts down and the supermarkets sell out of water and bread...its crazy.. LS, if mrs atl is off work tomorrow I am sure she will call mrs LS and talk about the snow.. I asked my wife what is snow called in Thai and she said "snow..we dont have it so we call it same as farang" funny stuff but enjoyable to watch.. cheers, atl PS at least mrs LS says "cold" because mrs atl says "it colt tilac it colt"

Hi, guys, that's magical getting to see their wonderful reaction to something they've wanted to see for so long, and kinda idolized seeing... Thanks for posting about it. By the way, they do have a word for it: snow in Thai is pronounced "heema" (the second syllable is very short).

Actually both the syllables are short. If the first is long it would be "pussy" (pronounced with a rising tone).

Ok, It snowed "nit noi" yesterday in the atl and mrs atl was outside trying to catch it...balls your lady must be amazed with the beauty of your city.. I just wanted to give ya'll a tip that worked for me, maybe not everyone.... I was at old navy yesterday buying t-shirts/boxers and picked up mrs atl a pair of blue jeans and when I got home she was sleeping.... I tapped her foot and she said "tilac why you wake me up?" I showed her the blue jeans and she immediatly jumped out of bed and was ecstatic..... pulling off her pajama's and trying them on.. anyway, that is closer to my wifes heart than flowers ever could be at the risk of sounding chauvinistic, my house has never been cleaner atl
