Lescroart, my friend, leaving for the first and second times are very difficult. However, it gets easier after more trips. I have left BKK about 15-20 times, and in the last 1.5 years, only 1-2 times did I feel (more than ordinary) heartache.
Towards the end of your trip, it helps to butterfly a bit 
One thing I have not done in years is have a girl accompany me to the airport. Only one time did I do this, and it was *so* much worse when I got home. She was all I could think about, she occupied my mind in the day and my dreams at night. Now, in my mind, my BKK-trip is completed when I get in the cab to leave the hotel. No tears, no stomach wrenching, etc. I can write my final FRs on the plane and have some good laughs writing them. Works for me, YMMV.
I love BKK and I love LOS and I feel priviledged to have a job that brings me there so often. However, I need to maintain perspective on what my life is really all about. LOS is my private fantasy-land which comes true when I am there. It's my "other life". I have two lives and I like it that way.
In no way am I saying that you should be like me, I'm just telling you how I deal with it.

CG, you have the right attitude as to how to deal with it, and hopefully one day I will too, lol. But I'm usually a bit depressed after returning home after a great vacation. This time it's only so much worse!

Hi guys. This is my first post. Well, I got back from LOS about 3 weeks ago after 10 wonderful days (incidentally my first trip back to LOS for 10 years) - and of course the post partum depression came on. What to do?... I checked out local (in New Zealand ) massage parlours for the best masseuses who were of course Thai girls. What I want to say is that these ex-pat Thai girls just love to hear about home and the scene in Bkk, Pattaya or whereever. I also find that if you treat them like you would a Thai girl in LOS - laughing and having fun and talk about bar girl things like how quiet it is in the scene at the moment and how much you pay for ST/LT - you can nearly replicate the Thai experience... and the girls treat you better then they would if you were just another punter. Still, next year's winter holiday for me will be back in LOS.

It's good to hear that I'm not the only one suffering from postpartum LOS blues. It really does affect you the first week or so back. Only now, after one week since I returned, am I coming to grips with leaving LOS. The folks at the office must really think I've zoned out.
I have to agree with CG about not having your TG accompany you to the airport. I think that helped some. Mine offered to give me a ride since she has her own car but I politely declined and she saw me off in the cab outside of nana hotel instead. I gotta say that the image of her blowing kisses to me as the cab ventured out of nana's parking lot and onto soi 4 stayed with me the entire plane ride and in my dreams. No matter how many times I visit Thailand I think that the first visit will probably be the most special.

I agree, the depression is worst after the first time. That's why I was back within 2 months of my first visit. Easier to cope now. It's like a drug, just takes time to get it out of your system.
