I was told in a letter dated June 17, 2005 that my fiance would soon receive a packet of instructions, she has not as of yet received them. Could you give me a status on this, I think once she has the packet we can fill out the DS-230 and schedule an interview. With the wait times you are talking about I would like to schedule the interview as soon as possible, to reduce any additional delays. Thank you!

Dear Compexec1:
Your fiancee’s petition was received at the Embassy on June 24, 2005. We could not reach your fiancée by phone, and sent out a Fiancee Visa Application Packet to her via mail on the same day. If she has not received it, she can come to the Embassy any Monday to pick up the information directly from our staff.
Your fiancée can call our office any time to speak with our staff about the process. Our number is 021-26-7000. There is an automatic message that is in English first, then repeated in Lao, so she can follow directions to get to the correct Consular staff.
Please let me know if I can do anything else for you.

Now I never had a major problem calling LG, and 9+ days sounds like a long time to get from Vientiane to her village about two hours drive away. LG will call the embassy monday and head over then to pick up the package. A week to respond to an email is also a bit long, if thay had responded sooner I could have gone with LG and helped her fill in the forms... Damn it.

Yes, I have. She has done everything to move the visa along before now. I just think maybe they don't post the best staff at that Embassy. I can see someone getting posted to Laos because they f***ed up in an importent country...

Well the “Packet of instructions” arrived at LG’s Mom and Dad’s house. She plans to try to schedule the interview next Monday. I will work with her this week on filling out the DS-230. Wish me luck.

Oh, so I guess the embassy staff *HAS* done their job, just as they said they would. Has it occured to you that, just maybe, your and LGs case might not be the only such case that this office has to deal with, and that their world does not circle around your life's needs? I know, hard to imagine -- but as it stands, seeing as how you posted yourself regarding consular delays:
"Our consular section in Vientiane has experienced unprecedented growth in fiance (e) visa applications over the past six months. We are addressing the situation by adding more staff and more time dedicated to fiance (e) visas. As such, our wait time for an interview is down to about four months. We are working to cut that wait time even further. "
and JackAttack has followed it up with:
"I was informed by a friend who is an attorney (yes, a contradiction in terms) and regularly deals with the US embassy here, that all visas for US are taking upwards of 6 months due to the unprecendented number of applicants."
Yes, your impatience is noted, but again, yours is apparently NOT the only such case they deal with -- so, when exactly did the packet of information arrive at her parent's house, and when does the postal stamp indicate that it was mailed? I'd guess the mail DOES take that long to get there.
Lastly, maybe they tried to call her in the morning, and we all know how these girls just love to sleep... ;-P
