Actually I agree that overpaying causes problems. Once you have tipped "high" it is very difficult to reduce in the future. I have found this in massage parlours, with golf caddies, with girls, etc.etc.
They are only happy until the next time you want to go back to the "market rate", then they get miffed.
Yes it does spoil the market!
