Flies are caught easier with honey, than with vinegar. I have always found the best method to get things done, is to personally meet with individuals in charge, and to use a decent amount of friendly charm, and to possibly underline this with either gifts (I found swiss chocolates to be a winner), or offers to bring something back from the home country. This has worked quite well with my consulates both in the US, as well as in Bangkok, when I needed some information, and favors. Of course, it does require you to be there - did you go with LG to the consulate when you were there? Did you meet the folks handling her case? Seems like your lawyer screwed up.

Quote: from compexec1 on 8:00 pm on July 26, 2005 Update: I looked up what the I-134 is on the internet, it is a “Affidavit of Support”, my lawyer had me send an I-864 an “Affidavit of Support Under Section 213A of the Act”…
There's your red tape in action. Unless the forms are totally different, you could argue that the contents of the affidavit remain the same notwithstanding the purpose of the form. Its the sworn information that is relevent not the title on the form. Of course, unfortunately that argument would have been useful to attempt to save the interview. From the background facts, it could be viewed (but never said) that the interviewer saw this as a quick way to end the interview. With the date now being November, better to just use the correct form (if the wrong one was indeed used) and check and check again that you've jumped over all the hoops for the next interview. If the interviewer was incorrect and the form could have been used, an email from your lawyer setting out your view and requesting her interview to be brought forward to rectify the "error" wouldn’t be out of order. If it was the wrong form regardless that the contents of the sworn information would be the same on both forms, I doubt that you would expect to see any sympathy from them. Good Luck DD - I don't think chocolates etc is going to do much good and then to the office not to an individual. Something to use as a thank you at the end - if you see yourself coming back sometime later. Too easily interpreted as a kickback etc to provide preferential treatment on an applicant instead of the merits of the applicant. If I was working in a embassy, I would not accept any "gift" from an applicant unless I wanted a quick one-way return home never to be offered an overseas posting again. Depending on how it was “offered” I might even take the attitude that scobie referred to.

Quote: from compexec1 on 8:00 pm on July 26, 2005 Update: So I get a call from a crying LG a bit after midnight here, she said that she was missing form I-134 and that the next interview time would be in November. I looked up what the I-134 is on the internet, it is a “Affidavit of Support”, my lawyer had me send an I-864 an “Affidavit of Support Under Section 213A of the Act”… I’m meeting with my lawyer at 4pm today to understand what went wrong. PS I will continue to push, but push in a very nice way!
What went wrong was that your lawyer is a quack! The I-134 form has been the requirement for a long time. I found that using lawyers on these items is a complete waste of money and does not buy you any preferred service time. The Embassy provides a complete list of items that need to be submitted and if you just go down the check list and verify all items there should be no problems. Now granted all this paperwork does take time to gather and prepare, but it is not rocket science and the instructions are pretty clear. So now you want to try to change the form that the Embassy has been requiring for years to another one. Good Luck fighting city hall. Don't forget while your are arguing with your lawyer over this issue, he will be billing his time. So mistake #2 was trusting your lawyer and not reviewing his work. Mistake #3 is what I personnaly advised you that you should not do and that was not let LG go to the interview alone. Had you been there by her side you could have filled out the form in 15 minutes on the spot and have it notarized right there. So I guess the penalty for all these mistakes is having to wait.

Update: Got everything in the mail last Wednesday, the I-134, the letter from my payroll department, copies of emails between LG and me from the last 15 months. I went with DHL this time; they say it should in Vientiane by Monday. Hopefully LG can pickup the paperwork Monday morning and then stop by the US Embassy so they can review the papers and set an interview date. If everything is good I’ll start begging for a fast Interview.

Because she is an Ex-Hooker, and has changed her life for me. Because I love her and she loves me. Because I like her as a person and a friend. Because I think a Hooker's client is no better then the Hooker. Because I'm crazy, and think we can have a good life together.
