I tought it was not possible to be infected by a needle because the virus dies at the contact of air. You can be be infected only if there was still fresh blood in the syringe. Correct me if I am wrong.
Anyway I think now you don't care at all about that.
I have a friend who has been living 'happily" with HIV for now 10 years. He still plays soccer better than me.
The current drugs are very good and no doubt better ones will be found shortly.
Good luck and don't forget it is an even better reason to have as much fun as you can !

Yeh support the thoughts and good wishes to you "will live long".
It does serve as a reminder to us all that we to a certain extent play roulette with our health. Often thought about having the test myself even though as you, sex has in the main been protected with the exception of three times (too pissed).
Not sure if I want to find out though. I know this puts the onus on me to protect others just in case but you always have that feeling I will be OK.
As said your circumstances just show that It can happen to any of us.
Can you let me know why you felt the need to get the test symtoms etc. Just curious.

Thanks for your kind words. My symptoms were severe flu like. High fever, headaches, sweating but what worried me the most was a severe rash. That was out of the ordinary. Well, unfortunately it wasn't just a yearly flu attack.
Live goes on and with some grieving now and then I definitely feeling mentally stronger by the day. I try not to ask my self "why me" anymore, but that is still hard to do. Overall I am positive about the future. I realize nobody knows in their lives when somebody from up above decides to pull out the plug.
So live a positive good life. Enjoy everyday and help all your dear ones to have an enjoyable life to.

When I first read this thread my feelings were one of sorrow and shock at your news - as many have said, it brings home to all of us the reality of HIV and the risks we take. You are the first person I have "known" that has openly shared this news and I commend you for it.
As I read on I was so glad to hear that you are becoming stronger mentally, and I am sure the words of comfort from the brothers on here have helped you in that.
I just want to add my heartfelt best wishes to you at this time, and offer in my small way to help if ever you need to chat please feel free to PM, I have no idea of what you are going through, but I think that this thread shows that to share the burden can help.

I did some research yesterday.
Think this:
Male , white , 30 , HIV + , infection caught in Canary Islands 1987.
Medication started immediately using combination of three medicine.
Added with suitable diet and exercise.
Alive today , not reached AIDS-level yet , condition stable , says having some "stomach problems" now and then.
Medication and research has gone forward since that.
Just keep cool , bro , Your odds are pretty good !!

I too have several friends in the same boat, both of which arevery confident that the battle to beat this f***er or at least suppress it into non existance, is not too far away from being won. The progress over the lest 5 years multiplys by the year and is very encouraging.
Hang in there and we will have a beer for a long time to come.
Well as for true friends, they will stay true friends and the others, well you dont really need them.
On a more personal note and if its not to painfull, do you mind telling me where you got the first test checks and or flu injections done.
also where you got thse results from.
Understand if you can't advise!!
