What's interesting about all this and it comes down to one issue. For the vast majority of BG they want to have FUN. They want to get away from the bar for a night or two. Jojje, you don't realise that the thais could give a sh_t about you any more than BigDUSA just because you pay more and tip better. Thai's in general don't want you in their country (even more so as you are a sex tourist) and only tolerate you becuase you come to spend money no matter how much you spend!
Personally, I have never paid more than 2000bht LT. I generally pay the going rate. If you pay less, the girls are mostly unhappy and view you as a cheap charlie, if you overpay you get no respect becuase you are viewed as been stupid with money and they will laugh at you behind your back and ask for even more. I think you need to understand the culture here a bit better and not just throw away money at sex workers.
What makes you think sex tourists paying prostitutes 4000bht for one night will bring respect among the wider thai society where the average salary is around 10000bht a month?
At the end of the day, the beauty of it all is that you can pay your 4000bht, BigDUSA 500bht and me somewhere in between and everyone will be happy. Up to you, up to me.

BM: I respect your entry since it is part of the debate and well formulated. That is how it should be here on the forum. Different ideas and points of view debated in a mature way. The only one not capable of adapting to that is of course mini-dick LY. But as I have now discovered that he is not only a LB but also a masochist - wanting to be beat up as much as possible - the utmost humiliation for him is to be laughed at, so here goes: ROTFLMO!!! But when you pay good for services and tip well - I guess you are in a long run contributing to some sort of increased wellbeing of their families living up north (generally...). In a way better than Red Cross since they a: probably dont even go there and b: just make 1 out of every 10 dollars reach the needing party....
My thoughts - after visiting the kingdom many many years - is more focused at the population than the cheap punters. It is truly a fantastic nation - giving space for so many people of different backgrounds - even psycho probation patients like localidiot! Just imagine him close to your home neoghbourhood! I for one would load the shotgun! (oh---- now I am really smiling at the thought!)

After reading your convoluted rambling, set against BigD's straightforward posts, I would have to agree fully that he is on target in what he says, but particularly about your needing medical help. Just an observtion, he is talking about mental, not physical intervention. You missed that completely, but then those most in need are the last to recognize it.
He states his going price up front - it is a two-way transaction last I had heard - and many others here do likewise - and to his considerable credit has suggested never haggling over it.
You need to ask yourself, and a good counselor, why you are so obsessed with finding all the wrong reasons to attack him, as it is obvious that his companions choose him, not just for one shot, but repeatedly and over long periods. Tells me he is doing something right, contrary to what must apparently be your wrongheadedness, n'est-ce pas?
Your constant 'nickle and diming' rhetoric says volumes more about your inner mental workings in regards to financial insecurity than about his.
Get a life - which doesn't involve criticizing choices of other people, for each other, freely given.

Regardless of what others may say about BigD, he speaks like an honest man, and that goes a long way in my book. If what he does is so wrong, then you would think that this information would eventually get out and the girls would stop seeing him. I personally pay a lot more than BigD, but I'm aiming for a different target, I don't allocate much time to bargain, and I don't take the girls out for a night on the town.

She worked bar for 30 days and never had a customer. No she is not a dog, bar was in a out of the way location. I was her first customer/farang and I treated her right. She didn't like working in a bar and went home.
I have NEVER promised her love, care and affection. Nor have I HINTED at a future with me. I told her I liked her but I'm a butterfly. she's OK with this. To her 6K per month is WAY MORE MONEY then she earns in Trat working as a farmer.
When I leave she stays in Pattaya for a few days and sees if she can hook up with another farang. I have no problems with this as she's NOT my girlfriend. She's a women I pay to stay with me. No more, no less.
Guys who come to the October round table in Pattaya will get to met her as I will have her with me at the start of the night and then she will go back to the hotel or over a friends apartment. This may prove to some guys, I'm able to pull decent looking women with a great figure.

I can understand the situation. She is a rookie testing out her market value and tooling her skill and you are her "boy friend"/companion/customer to help get her started. It's a good arrangement for both of you. You are happy because her price is right and she is happy because she has no customer anyway ( till she finds a better $$paying farang). You are in a "win-win" situation. No question about it. My point is even in this very good situation you are in, try to be a little generous if you can afford it. 6000 bahts/month maybe big money for a farm girl, but she is a p4p girl now. She also probably sends half if not more back home to help her family. The other half she will need to save up in case you dump her and she needs to scratch out a living until she finds the next customer. Since he is into p4p now and live in a big city, her cost of living is much much higher than when she lived at home in the villiage up north. And 3000/mo (assuming she sends 1/2 home ) will not do for her for very long in Pattya because she will have to find an apt., buy new clothes, do her hair so she can be marketable. Assuming she needs 200 bahts/day just to survive, that will only last her 15 days. If you really like her, give her a little more whenever you can afford it. I know a deal is a deal and you have absolutely no obligation to give her any extra. But put yourself in her shoes ( I know it's hard to do because your and her two worlds are so vastly different), I think you will agree that little extra $$ here and there can only help. If she has a good heart, she will remember your generosity and will pay your back in some way. If she is mean-spirited and think of you only as a " Walking ATM" or as a "sucker" for being a little generous with her, then you want to dump her quick. No good thing can come out of that mentality. It's a good way to test her and find out early. Just my 2c.

Wow - since when did negotiating get such a bad name?? Everone has a budget - an offer is made and its up to the seller to accept or decline. tipping is based on service rendered and availability of funds.
Why pay double the price for a taxi ride? Doing this will create targets of all farangs hailing a cab? If this is permitted than we will start paying double the price for drinks - food and other services.
I always tip 10 - 20% sometimes more. I accidently gave a 500 baht note thinking it was 50 (blame the tequilla) to a hostess and she immediately turned back to me and said - u make mistake. I gave her a 200 baht tip for being honest.
Maybe its the New Yorker in me - I hate being scammed.
Most MPs will overcharge whatever they can get if they see you are green behind the ears. In a free trade markert you barter for what you think is fair - that isn't being cheap especially when the selling party accepts your terms.
Most Asians are prepared to barter - I enjoy it. Barter with a smile - it goes a long way. If you are rolling in the dough than pay full price and tip 40% - usually those rolling in the dough do not follow that practice unless they have daddy's trust fund to live on.
