I think u need to differentiate here between tipping someone for service (eg cabbie, waiter etc) and paying a prostitute for sex. The two are completely seperate.
If you go into a massage (eg angels) and she says "its 1500 for sex" then paying her 1500 is not tipping!

On the matter of large tips for non-P4P related services - the maid, the security guard, the waitress, the porter, the taxi driver, the reception staff, the bus driver, the cook etc etc
Tipping says more about your culture than about Thai culture - Thais don't generally tip and if they do its a few baht in coins - seldom a note. Big tipping is counter-productive.
Most guys here know enough to realise that if they ignore a cultural norm in Thailand they will be regarded as ignorant - so nobody pats kids on the head, pushes past monks, talks badly about the royal family or wears their shoes into the wat because to do so is to show ignorance about what is normal in Thailand.
Yet the same guys are comfortable doing the opposite of what is normal with regards to paying extra for services - even routine services such as riding in a taxi - and then they think that because its MONEY this act of large tipping - this obvious display of ignorance of what is normal in thailand - is somehow going to win them respect. That it is okay.
Look turn it around - how much respect am I going to get from a taxi driver in New York city if I go out of my way to give a very small tip or no tip at all??? Why guys whats the problem - all I am doing is the exact opposite of what is NORMAL in that country.
I find it strange that I am the only one who thinks this way as BK, RTB, Arramsey (welcome back by the way) and other regulars know that Thais don't give large tips.
Then again, I don't know why I bothered to write all this - afterall my uncle-in-law, the Bangkok taxi driver could use the money - enjoy.

they usually say khop khun kha.
if they think im idiot for tipping so be it.
guys who dont want to tip always use the excuse that its not the cultural thing to do......bunch of shit....lol.
like having sex with their girls is culturally the right thing....lol.

Personally I don't need to make an excuse not to tip - just receiving average or poor service - I find that reason enough.
To the guys like Harold who feel they must pay a tip to everybody for everything all the time - even "a dollar or two" (50 or 60 baht??) - and to the guys who give 500 baht to the bell boy - one question - WHY?

Who cares why and who cares if they do? It is their money.
For me. Why do I give a big tip to some service body for almost no reason? Maybe I like the way she smiled or the way he helped me and they don't expect it. The look of delighted surprise is worth a few hundred baht to me anyday and I am in holiday mode.
I tip the Bangkok bus driver every time I arrive in Pattaya. Why? Same reason I'd tip the angel that takes me to the pearly gates.
Back to the original post on tipping the girls
ST - Taxi fare at best 100 baht.
Massage - about 300 - 500
LT - Anything from a couple of 100 to emptying out the wallet whilst murmuring exhausted thank yous
The above rates apply regardless of where the girl is sourced from. FL, parlour or bar all the same.
