my point has not changed at all i just think it's silly to pay PoonPang prices when you can find what you're looking for at regular prices. just my opinion. I also never said that a single person is going to change the market prices, but if the majority are paying higher prices, then that becomes the market price... is AnyOne paying attention ?? it's called being Thrifty, not a tight budget save the PoonPang princesses for the ego trippers

Everyone is paying attention except you. What DG, CDM, MOW and everyone else is saying is sure you can find a diamond in the rough - if you have so little money that you can spend hours looking for it - but that for a little extra - or a lot extra - you can get what you want - when you want it. ie straight away. When stuck on a tight budget and horny - if no diamond appears you would probably have to work with what is there. No-one disagres with you on this - but no-one, but yourself is prepared to do it. Therefore we spend more, have a better time, and dont end up with skank. 'nuff said

Chompoo, No disrespect to you, but most seasoned lawyers in US are commanding upwards of $ 350./ hr. In NYC and SF, it's more like $400-550/hr. I would consider someone pulling in US $200,000 +/year to be uppder middle class. It's just a subjective thing and actually I am curious about what a sociologist will consider a upper middle income person in the US is pulling in/ year. I live in SF Bay Area, and if you and your wife are pulling in around $ 100,000/year, you are not going to live in the upper middle class neighborhood. My electrician and plumbers makes more than $50/hr.

Manowar....well it depends a lot on geography doesn't it. Your frame of reference is very limiting when you lock your figures in SF and try to propose the kind of life you can or cannot have. Even if you have that blessed house in an upper middle class neighbourhood (yech!) are you making payments on it so high that you are unable to enjoy lifes other creature comforts like travel or a wine collection? By the way I hardly think that your American reference is suitable for the rest of the world when defining middle class or any class. Just $1,500 u.s. a month in Shanghai gets you listed as upper, upper middle class, and if you drive a Buick, well! So, I think Chompoo more accurately reflects the truth. Quote..."Upper middle class is probably closer to between $50 and $100/hr and that is before tax. But the point is that to this person it is completely ridiculous to pass up a hot girl at 3000B and move to the next bar searching for one at 1500B...."

Sorry if I offended anyone. I was referring to upper middle class income in US only. I was just making a point to YL that someone with a very high hourly income from the US ( or any other part of the world for that matter ) and only has 1 or 2 weeks in LOS will probably not want to waste too much time looking for that " perfect " bargain. He is going to try to find his " dream " girl in the shortest, most efficient, least brain dead way because he knows the values of his time.

i don't think i've ever met a Western lawyer in BKK, not that I go round asking everyone I meet but surely within those few lawyers actually present in LOS, even less are from SF or NYC, and aren't too worried about how to spend their time/money if they want to waste a nice size portion of cash, just like back home, I suggest Orbits or Piano Bar. and i'll still be getting my preferable mileage up to you...

As you point out there is no one definition. However, someone making $350/hr is clearly upper class, even in SF. I am not denying that someone making $200K is upper middle class, but that is certainly not the average. Throughout the US an individual making $70K or $100K would typically be considered upper middle class. SF (or NY) is very skewed. You can't just say that "upper-middle class" are, say, the top 5% earners in any area. Most people in the US would consider the top 20% of SF and NY people to be upper-middle class. There are certainly a lot more "upper-middle class" neighborhoods in SF than elsewhere. If you have a $1M house, regardless of whether you are plumber or a lawyer and regardless of where you live in the US, you are upper-middle class. Here is one reference. Not the gospel, but IMO fairly representative of what most people believe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Class_in_the_United_States,_circa_2004
