I can assure you supplies of Apple sauce deminish near the new-year in parts of Isaan,, I made it very popular on freshh BBQ'ed wild / black pig last year in the Maha Sarakarm province.
Now if I could only teach them NOT to light the BBQ with burning plastic bottles,,, AHHHHHH wtf.
Slowly slowly can't bring them out of the stone-age tooooo fast

actually, it's a point that should be addressed
you see years back there were Thais dropping like flies in S'Pore, construction workers
they were ingesting a toxin, and it took the folks a while to figure out how it was getting into their system.
they checked the drinking water etc.
well the toxin was VCM, used to make PVC
guess what the workers were using to make their KAo Lahm ?
Kao LAhm is that one you see where they've cooked rice inside of a bamboo stalk
only they were using PVC piping vs. bamboo
so maybe you better clue your relatives into why it's not good to put burning plastic near the food you plan to eat
