JJ, I know all this from asking about MNF... --------------------------------------------------------------------- TA wrote: The Atlanta Falcons traded him for a draft pick they used to take Tony Smith, Brett's college halfback at Southern Mississippi. The Falcon's head coach, Jerry Glanville, said at that time that Favre was "too fat, drank too much, and didn't know the plays". I'd say Brett did all right. I don't think many are claiming he's the greatest ever, but many people admire him for his toughness. He's a high risk/high reward player, that's his style. Meanwhile, Tony Smith scored 2 touchdowns in a 33-game NFL carreer: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/SmitTo00.htm Has to be one of the greatest trades in the history of sports. ____________________________________________ what could have been for my falcons???? jerry glanville what a yahoo (?) the best thing he did was change our colors to black.... and favre is recognized as "tough" hence the truck commercials he is on at every station break on sunday... tomorrows NE v Indy game should be a goodie... my fav QB is staubach, not the best, but a boyhood idol and not to mention a big property developer in the states these days. atl

Johnny Unitas After college, Unitas was drafted in the ninth round by the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL, but was released before the season began since there were four quarterbacks trying to fill out three quarterback spots. By then he was married with a child and worked construction in Pittsburgh to support his family. On the weekends, he played on a local semipro team called the Bloomfield Rams for $6 a game. Bart Starr Starr was drafted in the 17th round of the NFL Draft in 1956, out of the University of Alabama. He was a backup to Tobin Rote and Babe Parilli until 1959, Vince Lombardi's first year as Packers coach.

its funny, I was just watching the sports reporters on espn and they had a 10 minute discussion on favre's TD to interception ratio.... the non yanks here must be thinking WTF...but I do the same when rugby or football (european) is discussed.. anyway, mr alan you would have enjoyed the discussion because they backed up your theory. IMHO, you can stand by your record and bret has a nice one to hold up..he is no montana though... my 2 cents, atl

Yes, Favre has a nice record, but not top 15 all-time in my book. Many people who rate the best of all-time seem to think pro football began about 20 years ago. The NFL has been around since 1920. The main reason for this is that announcers like to hype the current players because that is what they are "selling" to viewers at the moment to boost their ratings. Madden is the worst offender. On top of that, Madden seems to be infatuated with Favre, way beyond Favre's actual accomplishments. And we all know that Madden carries more weight than other analysts of the game. BTW--Madden is the most over-rated announcer/analyst of all-time in any sport.

I see that overrated QB, Favre, had another overrated game. 33 of 46 for 351 yards, 3 TDs and ZERO interceptions. All of this in a 34-0 pasting of Minnesota. The overrated Packers are 8-1 as well. I'm a Cowboy fan, too.

If he keeps playing that well I might put him in my top 15. If he wins the Super Bowl he might make my top 10. No way in the top 5 because he had too many mediocre (or horrible) seasons. Ever wonder why he didn't play this well, or even close to this well in the last 5 years?
