Yup. I've been lurking around, but time constrainsts made it difficult to think about things before I posted. Thus, I decided just to "read and watch"!! ha ha ha!!

Good to see that you are still here.

Kinda sad that BK, Pinga, Dave, Kris, Bigin, and Mr.Joe to name a feware not posting as much  any more .

But, looking at the list, I believe that less then 30% of the members on that list are still very active.

I am here....lurking around sometimes. Just enabled the low-profile mode since quite a few threads are just a waste of time....
Cheers!

A while back on this thread, a member posted this message...."Take a look at the 63 members with more then 300 posts and then think back to which ones you now see actively posting in the forum. More then 50% of these member don't seem  to be that active, which is a shame."

Man, that is not the shame.

The shame is that even though there are currently 4089 members (as of this post), there is still a constant whine about the lack of participation of some 50% of 63 members.

Several times I have seen crying comments about lost members.  Life happens.

I haven't recently seen words about the lack of posting from the other 4001+ members.  Not one word encouraging them to post, or any comments as to why they do not post.

4001+ members who for some reason do not wish to participate with any regularity.  Life happens, right?

Lets say 2000 members are watchers, forum voyeurs.
Perhaps 1000 more joined only for fun for a day.

That still leaves 1001+ lost souls.  Just a wild guess.

But ignored because they do not fit the profile set by the 'posse'.

The 'posse', is that grand old group, mostly made up of the '63'.  Those grand old guys who suppose that number of posts, content of posts, and date of membership entitles them to cull the herd.

I am a recent member, who posts a lot because my job keeps me on-line and at the computer for 12+ hours
a day and as entertainment, I enjoy the forum a lot, so I check it out for a few minutes several times a day.

I guess that's not what I am supposed to do.

I have been trashed for posting too much, spelling, not having a job, not having a life, punctuation, thread f***ing, attempted thread hyjacking, actual thread hyjacking, not being funny (in a bad way), being funny (in a bad way), answering questions, not answering questions correctly, trying to hard, being stupid, being to smart, having a small ego, big ego, no ego, have been called almost every body part, hated, ignored, berated, belittled, cursed at, criticized, chastized, analyzed, and had some of my posts misunderstood, maligned, misrepresentated, twisted, pulverized, misquoted, and simply misread, as this post will surely be.

And so have a lot of newcomers, regulars, and casual posters.

The posse can trash talk all they want, but everybody else, watch your mouth.

I have even be accused of driving off members who quit long before I arrived and miraculously somehow I am preventing them from returning.

What amazing powers I seem to have acquired. An apparently I have a fantastic list of faults that any human being would be crushed carrying.

My worst crime? I participate to much.

Well I am sorry for being such a bad dude. For enjoying the forum as an individual, not being willing to be herded by the posse. Or culled for that matter.

There are still 1000+ other great possibilities if you like.

But who cares. Who wants 'em.  New blood must be tested, quantified, branded, and if found wanting, discarded.

But yet the whine continues for past posters , akin to super heros of the forum, those 'real men' who made the forum a glory hole.  Well, life happens.

The thing is that any topic has a limited lifespan, eventually repeating itself. (Think thunderous posts to newcomers to 'read those old threads'!)

There never will be a return to those days over 5,800 topics and over 86,000 posts ago.  The wild west is dead.

But for some of us newcomers and some good 'ol boys to, this forum is fun, informative, entertaining communication.

Imagine 1000+ members posting at least once a day. That sure beats thinking about some 30+ old dogs who have decided not to play any more.

Miss 'em? Nope. Never really knew 'em.
Respect 'em? Sure. They started this great forum.
Need 'em? Not really. New guys are joining every day.

In fact I bet there are new guys joining tommorow, or next week, or next month, or maybe next year, who are going to push this forum to the next level.

Wanna see what that is? Give 'em some space.

OK, I got my hard hat on, let 'er rip.

Yea, me too, just lurking, unless Pinga is posting the thread isn't worth wasting my time with.

Unless of course RTB in the bleachers is pontificating. Hey Platypus!

a lot of the Members Fastmover is talking about are ones who made this Forum what is is today.
they were here from the beginning, built up the Threads and Subjects.
they encouraged many other Members to join because of the content of this Forum,i was attracted to this Forum because of many of them.

many of them are still around, lurking and posting occasionally because there is not a lot to interest them.
there used to be hardly any flaming or abuse thrown around, not like now.

before i joined i read most posts and threads and learnt a lot,but there were times when i needed to ask a question and i think if i can do that, why can't others?.
people who admit they have not read any of the threads and then ask a basic question are annoying in a way and that is why they get the treatment.
i know TWD and i used to take turns and have fun telling them to do a search, and that's what it was to me,a bit of fun.

i am no expert on BKK,never really stayed there and had nights out and if and when i do visit again i will read the things that i want to know about.
but i know i might not find everything i want and will have to ask questions and i will probably get the 'do a search' response and will have no problems with it.

i don't post much useful info on the Forum, not much i can tell the experts out there or the people living there.
i know a little about Phuket and have pointed friends in the direction of things and places they might enjoy and i have had the thanks.
but that is the limit of my experiences.

many of the Members who are MIA had/have a wealth of experience about Thailand and it is a shame much of it is now not being shared.
but they have their reasons and i know why some are not posting often or just lurking.
many of these people have become friends in private and i value the friendships.
i miss many of them on the Forum.

fastmover:

I agree with Nokna on the wealth of knowledge from the seasoned members.

The 'posse', is that grand old group, mostly made up of the '63'.  Those grand old guys who suppose that number of posts, content of posts, and date of membership entitles them to cull the herd.

You are entitled to your opinions!!

"Posse"?? I'm not sure who is in this group, but there is no secret society in the forum or anyone besides BK that is above anyone else. There are cliques and people form their own friendship hence groups.

If you consider some of us that try to keep the forum online more with information and less flames and garbage then I will agree that I’m trying to cull the herd. If you are saying that we all have to agree, in affect “culling a herd”, then I have to disagree.

Q: Is the forum as good as it was before??
A: IMO: no it is not. There is way too much flaming, thread hijacking, and less information being posted.

Q: Is this just because of the newbies??
A: NO, but it is evident that there are more newbies posting flames and garbage towards other members then before or with the top 30 posts on that list.

What get's me is that you will get more and more newbies telling members that have been around this forum a long time to "f#$k off" or "don't read this thread" all because they don't agree with them. To me, that's a lack of respect and who the heck to they think they are anyways. I also do not like it when seasoned members get on newbies either by the way.

Q: Are the newbies bringin' in as much information as the top 30 posts on the board.
A: IMO: No. The newbies are either asking the same questions as before, introducing “stupid” topics like the “mouthf#*k thread”, or just thread spamming. And with the same topics being ask over and over again, the  same answers are being given. So, it would seem like t they are not using the search engine and the newbies can only post in the newbie thread rule was created.

And just look in the forum help / suggestion thread. How many of those topic belong in that thread and how many were started by newbies??

********

Now, this is not to say that the members on that list are perfect because that's not true either.

My entire point is that the top posters on the board are no longer actively posting, which in my opinion has some direct corolation to the lack of substance of information on the board.(*NO offense was directed towards the current members posting*) Of course, one could say that the lack of substance is because the topics have already been addressed and you can only say so much about the p4p scene or bkk in general.

The forum is ever changing and I just hope that it would change back to when the members respected each other, did not post redundant topics, less flames, and way less thread hijacking.

Just one  members opinion.
