pbd714, I am really sorry for your brother and since I had the opportunity to meet you on my last trip, really support your pain.
I have a personnal story to tell. I am often attracted by bar waitresses and last time took one for LT. We had long tongue and hand games at night and finally fell asleep.
Early in the morning we went closer and half asleep (not an excuse I know) had unprotected sex.
I met her for a drink same evening and asked her if she did not care about AIDS and why she accepted not to use a condom. She touched the table wood, said "no fear of AIDS" and "my dancer friends tell me clients don't like condoms".
Seems like there is a kind of acceptance of a potential danger. Does it have something to do with Buddhist philosophy? (no offence to Buddhist bros.)

As a quasi - "Bhuddist bro' let me say that it absolutely does have something to do with the "Thai version" of Bhuddism.
In a nutshell, the Thais are essentially fatalistic. Most of us know about "Mai Ben Lai" (usually translated as "Never mind" ) but an equally common phrase is "Alai ja gert, tawng gert" ("Whatever will happen, must happen." ) This is basically the reason for a lot of astonishingly foolish behavior by Thais.

I hope you read carefully the comments of pbd714 and his experience with this "hard" TG.
I understand how you may feel know. Well, just wait the 40 days or so to start checking your blood if you think this is necessary. Maybe there is nothing to be worried about.
Note. I think this is the moment when everybody facing the same stuff would like to get gonorrea or any other bloody disease that can be painful but perfectly managed with specific treatment, rather than get HIV and later on AIDS. Dammit!!

Airbus you need to wait until 3 months(90 days) after your sexual activity for the HIV virus to show in a blood test.The reason I know this is that last year while with a massage girl my condom broke and I went for a test.Anyway I got the all clear so try to be positive

How about this for unlucky - 1st night in Bkk, 1st time with a BG, condom breaks - got a really nasty case of clap which brought tears to my eyes everyime I had to piss - AND had to wait 90 days to find out if I had HIV, PLUS the Doctor I saw in the U.K when I got home was a real feminazi and told me (total bullshit) that I had a high chance of being HIV positive because most of the BG's in Bkk had aids!
Really screwed up my first trip to Bkk!

All scary stuff. I guess some shrink would say we're all thrill junkies. You know, like sky diving..... Sometimes though as I check my hands, gums, and other areas for even the slightly possible cut or sore before heading out for fun... I wonder why we take the risk. The questions usually answered.... but damn it sure makes you think.

Why is it so many of us have problems with condoms breaking? When in Thailand I only ever use DUREX Extra Strong ones now and KY Jelly or similar whenever possible. I just find it amazing that in the 21st century, that they can't come up with an 'unbreakable' condom! Does anyone else have any views or suggestions on this (or any other for that matter) aspect of safer sex?

My condolences to you pbd714.
I too know a guy who has HIV. He has had it for 5 years now.
He is healthy and without any symptoms .
But on his birthdays he gets depressed and are thinking .
There goes another year. I wonder how many i have got left.
None of us know, ofcourse.
But he is probably not looking at 30 - 40 years , like i am.
We are the same age.
He also got it in farang country from a farang girl.
I had an experience on my last year trip to Thailand with a girl who i think had aids.
I did not see her health book. I did not know that there was such a thing ,back then. I know now ,thanks to this site.
Anyway, i was at a go-go bar, and it was getting late. It was almost 2 o´clock , uhhhhh.
I had already turned down an 18 year old with a body that was out of this world, because she did not have an ID card.
I also turned down a 17 year old for obvious reasons.
So the waiter brought me this 22 year old nice looking girl. And i accepted.
I do not know if she worked there, or if she was just passing through for some reason.
When she was in the shower ,and i was laying in the bed ,looking forward to the upcumming event, i heard her caurghing ( dont know if it spelled wright, but you know, the sound that commes out of your mouth when you have the flue ). And it sounded like it was comming straight from satans buttom.
And she was caurghing a lot the next 2 hours.
When i had finished my shower , i got in to bed with her,and started feeling her all over. Like always.
I discovered that she had almost no fat on her body . I could feel her bones on her but , and the skin was all loose. The same with her boobs. Loose skin and almost no content.
That was 2 symptoms of aids. And that was enough for me.
I settled for a hand job.
About the USN blood test CJ reffered to.
Considering all the bullshit the NGO´s and the GO´s are feeding us. I would not be surprised if it is 100 % accurate.
But it is 7 year old and the figures is probably different now.
But getting HIV is no walk in the park.
I will never take the chance.
