Actually I think that 95% of rich Thais are extremely polite and charming. Unfortunately it is the 5% that are complete jerks that you come across 99% of the time when you are out and about.

thanks for the update on LL RTB.
I didn't want to compare apples to oranges either, but couldn't think of another city with rising rates.
I guess Manila, PI would have been a better choice.
The girls on P. Burgos have a few questions they ask before they decide their BF.
The most important one is your nationality. They charge Americans the most, so being a Spanish speaker, I tell them Mexico.
and always get a better rate with that...
They were over 2k (around 2,500) pesos with USA, but 1500-1700 with Mexico.
Batangas, PI is another town where P4P prices have escalated. Can end up spending as much as 10,000 Pesos just for a BBBJ in a club.

I dont know understand what happens to some Westerners that live in SEA. About 3 years ago, I was sitting in a 1st class lounge for Garuda Airlines in Semarang, Indonesia. I overheard a guy (sounded Aussie) tell a story about Jakarta, how long he had lived there and a place called JJs. I had been to JJs before so I listened in. Instead of talking about the hiso IBGs who frequent JJs, he talked about a supposed con-artist who threw himself infront of his taxi to extort money by faking an injury before he entered the club at 10pm or so. The con-artist did really get hurt in the exchange. Broken arm he said. He went on to tell the story, that the man asked him for 50 thousand rph (5 dollars) for a trip to the hospital. The guy bragged about how he bargained and bargained, and threatened to beat the con-artist up. He called the police to come. By 4am, the police came, he filed a report, gave the guy 5000 rhp (50 cents) and left the scene. He continued talking about how 5000 rph was too much even after entering the plane and said he would never agian go back to JJs.
Why do some farangs take advantage like this? I dont know, and its not a new thing either. One of the saddest stories in American History is what the Colonizers did to the American Indian.
Many times SE Asians dont talk back when we get mad, feel threaten by our anger, and initially agree to our terms. Later on, they enact legistlations to either charge us to come into their countries, like Indonesia, or create stricter visa laws like Thailand.
LY, if you think for a minute that people like me ruin it for you in Thailand, you are completely delusional. Its clearly the other way around.
A word of extreme caution. If you offend wealthy westerners with illogical reasoning and threats, you will get some whitty exchanges and a few threats back. If severe enough, they could send someone "off the books" to talk to you. Dont be Stupid and Cocksure with influential thais with money, power and a chip on their shoulder. A moderator wont need to delete you as a member, they will do it for him.
