Have you not noticed that the Dutch pronounce some of their words from deep within the back of their throats? A sound very much similar to that of clearing your throat when you have a heavy cold.
When talking to them I spend my time shadow boxing - with my head ducking & weaving - just in case they are rolling something more than their words around in the back of their mouth & it is accidentally expelled during a bout of extended prose.
I think I worry unnecessarily. I am only 6'1" so it would probably fly over the top of my head anyway given that all Dutch men are giants...it's people walking behind me who should be careful!;)
Moke:
What you need is one of those 'up and over' garage door type bread bins. This should be the same size as your food tray with the bottom cut away. You could then place this over your food and it would form a protective shield against incomimg missiles yet allow you to see & eat your food in comfort.
Alternatively, any person who is unable to keep his food and bodily fluids within the confines of his own person should be made to wear one of those plastic flared muzzles (like a 1930's gramaphone) that you put on dogs that bite!

Spent three months in Amsterdam working on the KDC-10 tanker program and know exactly what you mean!
Flew home business class and discovered the privacy screen between the seats. Took advantage of it until I saw my seatmate was a nice looking Chinese lady who did not have a cold. Closed the screen and had a very pleasant fllght to LAX!

I am just a small boy but you better be carefull when walking in front of me; I am Dutch too........ OK, we speak a language which seems to be difficult to grasp by many other nationalities but do not think it is as bad as you say. And thinking about it now, you made this statement at the time the Dutch queen is visiting Bangkok. She might not be charmed when she reads your post. (Everybody knows the Dutch are very liberal, even the queen!) And when we are on the subject, was surprised to see the Queen arriving by BTS at Asoke just a minute ago and proceeding from there by metro! We are such simple people..... Thet never stop the traffic for me though when using the BTS.
