Last trip I was approached by the guys on motorbikes and on foot offering me a free chance to win a prize.Of course I scratched off the ticket and won the big prize...I said OK give it to me.They of course insisted that I go on a tour of their vacation resort facility just to see it so I will tell my friends about it.
I knew once I got there I would essentially be their captive and would likely have to bully my way out so I declined their "generous" offer.
They continued to drive up to me asking me if I spoke English I got tired of it so I began responding that I do not today. Of course this leads to derogatory comments about my American heritage.
HMMmm?? Lets see...these guys are constantly harassing me while I am on vacation. After several days of this I make a snide remark and then somehow I become the ugly &%@#*$%& American. Am I bothering them on their vacation??
I make it a policy to simply never accept anything offered by a Thai or Falang man that approaches me....
Whatever I want I will easily find it.

Update:
This is an update on the drug on the skin scam.
I have recently been told that apparently about 6-7 weeks ago an organised gang of 5 people, 3 women and 2 men were caught in the act of robbing a person after administering some kind of drug in the same area around Pratunam market.
Although I have no official confirmation about this arrest (it was featured in a Bangkok newspaper) I am working to get the details of the type of drug used.
I will keep you all informed.

Everyone is forgetting about the Kings Birthday or Holiday! Only special prices one day a year when the Gems are on sale! What a deal! (no I did not go).
My first time to Patong... I was lost in the crowds looking for a specific bar to meet a friend. A Thai would not leave me alone. I told him I would pay him $100 Thb to lead me to the bar. Of course, he took me to a different bar. He wanted the money and I told him he just lost any chance of that by trying to take me to the wrong spot. He did not get his $100 thb and I found the bar I needed myself.

There is no update!
It seems everyone is keeping mum about that incident.
I guess the powers that be don't want to scare the Tourists away with more stories.

Only thing I have to add about the taxi gas subject that's been bobbing in this thread. It makes sense as someone mentioned for women traveling alone in any land to be nervous getting into any guy with a strange man. I don't care for taxi drivers myself much after my first 6 months here when I was still learning the roads and got taken the long way quite often...
But I wanted to mention that one shouldn't panic if the driver doesn't resemble the photo on the dash. He's probably not a murderer escape convict on the lam. A great many of the drivers are renting the car from the other guy after the first guy is off work. Normal practice.

I must say I am surprised that there are not more stories in this thread of the many scams being pulled out there in this big bad world.
