When it comes to drink prices I'm with Mel, I feel like robbed in many gg bars nowadays... And I don't like drinking on the street  except for some Suk Rd late shows... But with hotels there's still a choice even below 1K B. and highly competitive offerings for < 3K B. Food? Still world's numero uno for me in terms of selection and value for money and especially budget options... Girls? like hotels: still a good selection with a nice enough niche for every budget... Still not many places worldwide can compete with LOS.
Ok, maybe your average carefree Nana or Soi Cowboy rampage has become a little pricey and it needs some sober budget concerns to stay financially alive over a 2 or 3 weeks holidays… The good news is that all those big spenders don’t necessarily get the better girls. There’s still no relation between budget levels and finding a gem…

Thoughts and ramblings from the Desert!
I can defiantly see MG's point. When I came to BKK in December 2005, the exchange rate was roughly 42 and some change Baht per USD. Last time I checked on the open market, the exchange rate continues to drop to less than 33 Baht per USD. I can't blame the Thai economy for all of this since the USD is falling everywhere these days. Just my luck I started out too late in the game.
Will this current trend stop me from coming back to LOS...? Hell no. What will happen is there will not be any massive nightly spending at bars for lady drinks, except for the lady I am with. Some may see this as rude, but the days of me dropping 10K Baht buying round (s) will probably be over.
For the record, TL is one of the best deal's I have found in BKK. There may be better places, cheaper overall costs, etc but for me it's location, flexibility and a great overall stay!!!
All in all, LOS isn't what it was a few years ago, understandable, but the future still looks good and I'll ride it out until it prices itself out for me and then move to the PI and start again!!!

I agree with you on many points..just had a vacation last Nov/Dec and was taken aback by how much more expensive things were from what remembered in the 3 years I lived there..you old timers can have a nice laugh at that observation!
I will say that hotels are still a great value compared to the farangland...TL/SG example are both under $50 and would be easy $200 in LA..
now I am not suggesting RTB get in Kahutes with the owners and raise prices 
and it is far more expensive than earlier century prices..but taxi's are still the best buy and restaurants (if you know where to go) are still by far a bargain..
I am with you mel that its not like the old days, but I just planned a 8 day trip to visit the family in the ATL, with a 3 day jaunt to Miami and the 1 week will cost me about the same as my 17 day trip to BKK just a couple months ago and I will spend 4 days at my parents house (no hotel)..
inflation baby...and the current administration in the US aint helpin at all LOL
just a quick jab at the conservative yanks here...hey its me guys you know I cant leave that obvious jab open...
but mamasans remembering me from 2 years ago and redoing the tab that a newbie wiatress tried to pad...PATPONG...made me clam down a bit..
mel..I am with you bro..and it pissed me off the first few days back there..speaking thai to cab drivers that would refuse to take me etc pissed me off..but I gotta say that the expats living on pension checks are the ones that have a serious complaint..
will I continue to go..of course..will I always say "man how things change, this sucks" of course but bottom line its still a good place to be...
and I am one of the bro's here (like you) that make a decent living but not rich by any means..

You're right about that....lol...
But tend to agree with MG....now adays it "Can" be a Tad X'y..
Last year I managed 11 visits, fortunately a lot of them financed (partially at least) by work....!!
All but one with the same "companion"...and certainly not complaining..... even if her taste in "Costume" jewellery is almost sending me to the wall...5555
Just wish I could work to a 7k a day budget, it would certainly make my bank manager smile!!
A slower start to this year....so far only 1 visit...
Next trip is ages away.....I don't get to Bkk again until.....TOMORROW !!!
Unfortunatley it will be a late arrival, so RTB if the gang has left for greener pastures by the time we get to TL, leave a message with bartendy....or I'll call you...
Then again, maybe I'll be extremely tired after the trip and have an "Urgent need" to put my head on a pillow....LOL...
Whatever, if not tomorrow, we will be back from the Island on Wednesday.
Starting to feel better already

RTB apreciate the advice, and to be truthful if it was not for friends like you I would give BKK a wide berth.
AHH get married AND have a baby boy,, I have no comment other than to say,,, what the fark is that biting me on the ankle,,,,,,,???? gee they learn to crawl fast.
Mick the kick,, nothing went wrong with my last trip,,,, ahh other than spending WAY too much money.
Glad to see others agreeing that BKK is getting expensive,, Dumbsoda, atl, Defresh711,,, I can't see things improving quickly so maybe this is the perfect forum for us to share cheaper options ( perhaps / actualy definately not really belonging in this section).
A holiday inermingly BKK with some cheaper towns/ cities may help many of our members.
