Melbourne is a shithole compared to Sydney.
I went to Melbourne once and that was enough for me.
I have a place in Sydney but live in a far bigger shithole than Melbourne these days, Al Khobar Saudi.
Was just back in Sydney very briefly last month and there are more Thai restaurants and Thai massage girls than just about anywhere, but Thailand.

I've been to Sydney and would say it is a world class city that ranks up there. So maybe it would be a little unfair to compare it with Sydney, I don't know never visited Melbourne. Is Melbourne that bad?

I like both Melbourne and Sydney.
Sydney and Melbourne compare to each other like NYC does to Boston (I am not saying that NYC is like Sydney and ...).

My votes for sydney...I adored living there.....didn't like Melbourne...it was a short visit....but I reckon if you lived there it'd be good.....but I'd never know....I'd always chose Sydney first......beers in the Cross.....Indian Food at Crows Nest.......Great times....

If your a tourist, then yes, Sydney is the more attractive place to visit, all glamour and glitz. Living there is a different matter. It's expensive, hectic, too much traffic. Melbourne is more spread out, more affordable, more laid back and has better value restaurants and clubs.
Any Sydneysiders on this board will disagree, but then Melbourne and Sydney are always fighting over which is the better place. Just see how many more members post on this thread now. I've lived in both, and Melbourne wins hands down as the place to live.
Many overseas visitors are surprised how much Melbourne has to offer, as it's Sydney that is to many people the face of Australia around the world, with the opera house and harbor bridge so well known.

When you are in Sydney just look at the classifieds in one of the newspapers and there is a section with massage parlours and sex services and there is much mention of Thai and any other type of asian women you might desire.
Prices are good and service is good but most are ST.
You can get any nationality you want in Sydney.Smorgasboard really.
BTW Melbourne weather is shithouse....far too cold in winter.
For those of you know Sydney I have a place in Coogee Beach...just about close to one of the best places in the world to live IMHO

Well I lived in Melbourne for 5 years and was in fact born there, but I seen the light twice now. As for the better between Syd and Mel, Sydney wins every time, Melbourne is a boring shithole as I said. Sydney has to be good as the biggest kiwi population outside of the farm on kiwi lnad is Sydney. But if I returned to Oz it would probably be Sydney, but as far as the absolute best place in Oz to live, that goes to Darwin, hands up or down.
The only thing common about all the ex melbournites here in Los is that they have seen the light also and left, all those other poor suckers fooling themselves that it is a good place... well actually yeah it is a great place, better than here, so you should all stay there and we'll put up with the crap here and wish we were there.
