I thought it could be fun to meet up with newbies in BKK or Pattaya, sometime in June.
I see that some of the old hands and expats in here meet up to exchange notes and discuss common interests and experiences. It’s all very well and good but their outlook on Thailand and all things Thai is different than someone who has never been in the country or even a second time visitor.
I think that after a while you live or regularly visit a place you grow out of some of the things you were doing at beginning of your stay or first visit. Conversely a newbie is full of excitement and will want go through the beaten tourist track – going to places with someone as new as you are and not knowing what to expect or how things work. Half of the fun in being a newbie is that most places you 1st visit look exciting and on returning there you find them hideous and wonder how on earth you were there on the first place. 
This was my experience when I first visited Thailand, last year. I’m looking forward to recapturing some of that excitement again, in June.

Very true brother Sarge, but what you're not taking into consideration is that because of their experiences and the knowledge they've gained over the years a lot of our newbie brothers have been saved from making some very bad, and possibly dangerous mistakes.
LOS on the whole is a very safe place ( and a whole lot of fun  ) but even so there are a whole range of problems that a first timer can run into, and some of those problems pretty much don't exist anywhere else in the world.
I would hate to see someone who has been looking forward to visiting LOS, for whatever reason, to have the worse experience of his life because he met the most beautiful lady he's ever seen in his life, only to find out later that she is really a he. Or for him to not know the best way to react when a LB grabs him on the butt and he ends up getting gang beat by a group of them.
What about him checking into a hotel and not knowing that he should have booked the room as a double so now he's stuck spending a good chunk of his vacation money on joiner fees. Or knowing to use metered taxis, or the skytrain, instead of just waving down any taxi that comes along. Buying his souvenirs and DVD's away from Sukhumvit as much as possible.
Then there's the biggies such as BF'ing the lady of his dreams and going back to the room, only to hear banging on the door later and finding the police outside ready to haul him away because it turns out the lady of his dreams is only 16 and he didn't know to check her ID first.
Lastly do I even have to go into the whole history about the pitfalls of falling in love with a bar girl and the heartache that can lead to.
I agree with you bro that meeting new people and having new experiences can be fun and very rewarding, and seeing LOS through a newbies eyes is a wonder. All first time visitors to the kingdom should have their own experiences, and learn from the mistakes they will more then likely make. All I'm saying is that taking notes from the pages of those who have come before could help to keep what should be the best time of your life from possibly becoming the worse time in your families life. I can't think of anything more frightening then to hear one newbie ask another newbie SHOULD I DO THIS? and being told I DON'T SEE WHY NOT. Keep an open mind. With experience comes wisdom. Peace

I agree with what you say in your post, in fact I don't think anybody could argue with the points you have raised.
However my thread is meant to be partly tongue in cheek and also stating the obvious fact that being a relatively newbie myself (this will be my second trip to Siam) I feel I have more things in common with another newbie than with a long term visitor/resident.
I like to meet both set of groups, the old hands for all the reasons you have wisely stated - equally I'd enjoy spending fun times with someone as new as I am, who still feel overwhelmed by it all.
On my 1st trip I was with a mate of mine who's been coming to Thailand for a few years and knows all the pitfalls and the good things. It made a big difference on my experience over there - although he's very much a Pattaya man he knew enough of BKK to sail it through without any hiccups (read: dodgy taxi drivers & touts at Patpong or sultry hotel staff).
Still, there were times and places when he too was a newbie and we had a blast in discovering these uncharted territories.
This time round I'll be in BKK (for a week) on my own and will be joined by him later on, to head off to Pattaya - so I thought that maybe there are few newbies out there, who may like the idea to meet up and have fun with like-minded, like-experienced visitors.
Anyway if you are in BKK at that time, we could discuss the merit of your posts over a beer or two.

Your level of experience sounds almost exactly like mine, right down to traveling with a "pro" for your first trip and visiting places that even he was previously unaware of.
I'd be happy to meet up with you and buy a round or few if I were going to be there during your stay, but alas I will not. Maybe you could still meet up with the seasoned bros and find another newbie or two among them. In any case, I wish you the best on your trip!

Hey guys,
I'll be making my first trip to BKK for a few days starting June 20th, then heading off to points unknown. It sounds great to meet up with some guys who have a little experience but still have the new feeling of excitement at being in such a cool place as I image LOS to be.
I'm an American IT dude who's been working in New Zealand for the past 6 months. Since my big contract is just about finished, I'm ready to stop lurking at this site, (extremely helpful and informative, BTW) jump off the fence and head to Thailand. I know that when I first got here to NZ, I was completely stoked, and now that I've been here for a while, things have gotten to be somewhat "old hat". There is something in the newbie experience that you loose once you become familiar with a place. But... the wisdom of experience and knowing the ropes is priceless.
So let me know if you'll be around and maybe I'll see ya!

Hey brother Sarge, good to hear from you. My apologies for the slight rant. It's just a bit scary thinking about some of the things I've heard or read about happening to newbies from time to time. Fortunately it sounds to me like they would be in pretty safe hands if they had the chance to meet up with a brother like yourself. Wish I could join you but I head back to the grind on May 25  . 555, Nokna (your FR's are legend, man) ... Meeting ladies is definately on the top of the list, along with drinking inhumane amounts of beer! But, since LOS is a new country to me with all kinds of pifalls for an inexperienced guy such as myself, it seems like it would be cool to meet someone who knows what's up so I don't have to make the same mistakes as those who have gone before me.
Sorry you won't be there, dude. I understand you have some good connections in Phuket. I'll be there 26th-30th June. I'd like to say I'll be thinking of you, but that is just not going to happen, as I'm sure you understand.
BTW, I'm not even going near that "virgin status" comment... Any guy looking for man-love would be wise to seek elsewhere... not that there's anything wrong with that...
