ABC and Bigin made these observations some time ago and are still relevant today.

Sup':

** These comments and observations are not directed at any one member.**

I’ve been posting in this forum for over a year and there seems to be a dangerous and destructive pattern evolving.

The posts/information has gone from candid, colorful, lighthearted, and informative and is migrating towards, aggressive, colorful language, demeaning, nitpicking, with little substance.

A good friend had this comment, which I thought fit:
"If I wanted other people's morals shoved down my throat I would never have joined the forum!  If I wanted to be surrounded by people who agree with my every view, I'd look into cloning!"

We don’t have to agree, but we should be able to discuss and post our disagreements and information in constructive manner. I’m being realistic here and I’m not advocating for a G-rated material, sensored information, a mutual admiration society or group hugs… but something is far far wrong when we go out of our way to belittle people, purely because they don’t agree with us on a given issue.

I think it’s terrible when some members will comment on grammar, or pull out their dictionary about a word used, instead of focusing on the topic. Or worse yet, when members become hostile towards one another and start threads about that member.

If you don't like what a member has posted, then post your response and move on. Let’s please try to keep the criticisms to constructive on topic ones as well.

A year ago thread like "I hurt Her" would never had been brought up, nor did BK have to post any message/rules about what is and what is not allowed to be posted in the field reports. Soon the posts are going to be very general, with no personality and color, as well as no opinions, which I would hate to see. The more rules in place, then the more work for BK, not to mention the restrictions placed on the members. Let's please try to use common sence when sharing information posted to non-members

I realize that with size and growth comes with it the growing pains. Well …… I for one would like to see the form get back to the informative post forum it was and still is without all the egos.

ALL of us have to decide the fate of this forum. BK can moderate it and house the data/servers, but it’s the membership that shapes the content and sentiment. I don’t think we really want BK to set more rule and guidelines for posting. What does it say about the direction where in the post words like “ this is not meant to flame anyone, or don’t flame me, ect are written. It is sad that those types of sentences are included in our posts in the first place.

The way I see it is BK has been nice enough to set up a cool place to meet people, post information, and get information about Thailand. Let's ALL .... including myself .... try to clean up our act so that we can ensure that this forum heads back into a healthy direction before it's too late.

Have a good one.

     ABC;
Sup bro.? You are certainly right about the way it's going. You can't comment on something written, or disagree any more without being told your an idiot. That certainly is a shame and, makes me feel as if i'm back in kindergarten. Of course when those very things happen and, I get my feathers ruffled, I too revert back to my "shut up and stomp ass days". So i'm no exception to what you are saying here bro. To much "i'm smarter than you are" sentiment these days on the forum. I would bet BK looks at it and, says "what the f*** happend"  sometimes. I too hope we can get it together, and, bring it back into perspective. Well, at any rate, we should see what caliber of members we have, if the members can all come together on this issue and, bring the forum back to the way it was. I for one hope it happens bro.

Spot on! Obviously a large part of it has to do with those little red dots. Sadly, the ones with more under their name seem to think it is some form of knighthood that entitles them to be rude , loud and oftentimes boring as well.

Of course there are some genuinely nice chaps who don't let their poster status go to thier heads. Its a pleasure to read their stuff.

i stand guilty as charged.
you may think that members with more dots think of themselves as special and while you may be right(i do not however)think of one thing.
a year ago this Forum was totally different to what it is now, such a friendly place to visit, but had definately gone downhill.
you quoted ABC,but have you noticed how little he posts these days?.ever wonder why?.
perhaps because of newer members and not the old school?.
and IF this is the case,he id not the only one.

but that's the fun of the Forum, having fun and agreeing to disagree with other people.
yes, sometimes things get heated between members, but this is natural.
this will always happen when 3500+ people get together.
you cannot expect to get along with everyone.

i work with around 80 people on a close personal basis and can say i have no time for over half of them, but i just have to get on with it.
there have been many times when i have not been on the best of terms with members of this Forum.
but i just shrug it off and carry on,i just don't take things that serious anymore.
just smile and carry on,quite easy really.

Try to get admitted to the LF.  We don't even like ourselves very much.  But we love our illustrated leader, TWD.
