I have been lurking here for about a year and would like to thank all Brothers for their great information. I took the plunge and will be in LOS 11th of Feb, can't wait. I would like to meet up with some Brothers to buy some beers to repay for all the great threds, that will hopefully keep this Newbie out of trouble. After all this I still have one question....I can have a little trouble with new enviroments which I guess I can hesitate at the last monment. Take for instances I would go through all the trouble to go to a MP than at the last moment chicken out. What is the best advice or your experiences to not let this happen? Again, thanks Dark Knight for this great forum and hope to hear back from many Brothers. Happy to be aboard!

Welcome aboad Soapy -
Just get on the plane and come to BKK. Don't feel you have to do everything the first day.
Take a walk to Nana Plaza, cruse through and back out again.
Walk down Sukhumvit and walk past all the places you have read about - the Beer Garden, Gullivers, The Eden Club, Darling's!
Continue down to Soi Cowboy, have lunch, and then go have a beer.
If you don't feel comfortable, get a soapy or call one of the escort services. I recommend "Memories Guide & Escort Service" @ 9-01-743-1000 and ask for Annie.
Tell her Mr.Michael recommended her and she will send a very nice TG to your room for 2 hours. A nice way to creep up on BKK.
Call marc at the Eden Club and he will set you up with two TG's that will introduce you to another world!
Then set up a meet with an experienced Brother and he will show you how to deal with BG's.
You will be a BKK pro after 3 days and will never want to leave. The worst part of your trip will be on your way to the airport when it's time to go home.
I haven't heard a Brother yet who has solved that one.
Take time during the day to visit some of the Thai culture - its worth it.
Take a lot of photos to keep the flame burning until you return!

Hi Soapy,
Congrats on having booked your tickets, I'm sure you'll love it here. As for feeling hesitant in new environments, I think after drinking a few cold beers and seeing smiling faces and almond eyes everywhere around you, you'll feel just fine.
Mokewen's suggestion is one way to go. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with a telephone escort service, but maybe that's just me. I've never even tried that so I don't know. But in case that sounds like something you might want to do, Mokewen's done a big favour here in telling you exactly who to contact and what to say to maximize your chances of getting a good experience out of it.
My suggestion would be to do the Mokewen walkabout to get to know the surroundings a little bit, stop for a beer if you see an interesting place, explore a bit. And try to meet up with one of the travelling or resident Brothers as early on your trip as possible, first or second night preferably. That, I think, would be the best way to go. Like Mokewen said, in a few days you'll be a pro and the toughest part is not getting used to the new environment, it's leaving it.

Congratulations on taking the plunge and making your travel arrangements!
I can relate. Try getting into the habit of asking yourself "can I do this?" and answer yourself, "yes". In time that timid, robotic reply will become more robust and authentic as you gain confidence and experience.
True, it's a cheap psychological trick designed to keep you moving forward towards a goal. But it works and that is the whole point.

Thanks for the great info Mokewen, that is a plan I will put into action. That's what makes this forum great...all the detailed information from one question. I will take a walk to get my bearings, meet a brother than sample all Bangkok has to offer! Thanks to all the brothers for your encouragement and advice. Now I know I didn't make a mistake.
