On my last trip 3 bar girls(all in pattaya)
asked if I would go to their family with them. "you go to rayong with me?" etc etc... I didn't want to be a part of this for several reasons. I've read that if you join in on a trip to their homes you have to pay for everything, including everything her family and extended family needs while your there..
I remember a previous thread about this but don't recall if there we're figures and amounts given.
anyone care to share how much a trip like this set them back? I imagine it's an interesting experience for a couple days but I don't want to spend huge amounts of cash

Putting the amount you might spend on the family aside for the moment, visiting her family is a bad idea in my opinon for a couple of reasons.
1. Visiting any asian females parents can be interpreted at a big deal. So ... she might interpret your actions as saying you are her quote and quote bf. And if she thinks you are her bf, then you will have to straighten things out before you take another female out and she get's all bent or salty to you!!
2. Seeing how the parents live can help her in the future hit you up for sponsorship or some sort of money. Since you've seen how they live, it can play on your emotions.
** Now if you are her bf, then visiting her parents is less of an issue on the points I stated above. I visited the family of the tg I was sponsoring. I did not feel any pressure from them to pay for anything, but in the end did give the family money (around 20,000 baht), as well as take them all out to dinner, and bring them groceries. **

completely agree with you there ABC.
I have visited the homes of 3 TG's in times gone by. I was never pressured for money, beyond dinner etc.
But there is that great risk of involvement leading to sponsorship.
My view is go ahead and enjoy it, but beware of the risks involved.

Slightly off topic, on my next trip to LOS - (3 - 6 months) i'll be visiting a b/g's family in Surin, anyone know the quickest way to get to Surin?
I know you can catch a train from Bangkok, but i've been told you can fly there?

Addy 007, you can fly roudtrip to Buriram from Bangkok for about $60US, which is close to Surin. I rented a car with full walkaway coverage for $32US a day.
As far as going home with TG also never been hit up for money other than Dinner. When you take the family out to dinner it is whole family, aunts, uncles, cousins etc. So expect any where from a dozen to thirty people. Don't worry food is very cheap in Northeastern Thailand. The most I ever spent for dinner was 4,300baht. This included Scotch, beer, soda, and dinner. I always over order so everybody can take someting home. The four uncles each took new (unopened) bottle of 100 Pipers home on the farang. I make sure all the kids get as much soda as they want and don't go home hungry. I do this because I want to. It makes me feel good. And a good time is had by all!

Best way to go to SURIN. Take a plane to Phuket and then a ferry for around 1 hour trip.

IMHO If you would like to get only the experience of the up country landscape and scenario that's fine. However, as ABC and Dave mentioned before it will be great risk of involvement leading to sponsorship.
