I watched Ireland lose to France on Soi 33 back in late Feb, with Dr Love and CG.
At the time I did not realiose what this team could do. I am proud to have been a part of history today as Ireland take thier first Triple crown in 19 years, and just narowly missed the grand slam ('48 was their last one).
Rock on, and well played to ScotlaND - they kept fighting to the end. (but webster might nevr be forgiven for the stamping)

Hey Kev,
could you tell us what the Triple Crown is?
I was in Dublin a couple days ago and people seemed excited at the prospect of winning it, I didn't elaborate with them as I don't follw rugby as much as other sports.
I thought that in the 6 Nations tournament all it mattered was the Grand Slam (i.e. winning every single match) or just finishing ahead of everybody else.

Triple Crown: for one of the home nations (England, Scotland, Wales and Ireleand), to beat all the others.
There is also the Calcutta cup, disputed every year between Scotland and England
Any way, as a French, I would say that only the Grand Slam matters and WE WON IT !

Ireland is not that good at petanque. Anyway, I think that before discussing which countries are good at this, we should educate the brothers about this interesting game.
Petanque is a form of boules (boules is a collective name for games played with metal balls) where the goal is to throw metal balls as close as possible to the pig (a small wooden ball). It's normally played on hard sand, but can also be played on grass or any other surface. Similar games are bocce and bowls.
Rules: The game can be played individually or in teams. In competitions, there are three different configurations: -three players per team (with two balls per player) -two players per team (with three balls per player) -one player per team (with three balls per player).
The balls are made of metal and weighs between 650 g and 800 g and have a circumference between 7.05 cm and 8 cm. The pig is made of wood and has a circumference between 25 mm and 35 mm.
The playing area should be big enough, more than 12x3 meters.
The starting team begins by making a ring on the playing field (35 to 50 cm in diameter) which both feet must be inside when throwing.
Then the pig is thrown. For seniors it should be between 6 and 10 meters from the ring, and 1 meter from any obstacle or boundary.
Then, the player that threw the pig throws the first ball. After that the team that doesn't have the ball closest to the pig throws. When they run out of balls, the other teams throws their remaining balls.
The team with the ball closest to the pig gets one point for each ball closer than any of the opponents balls.
The team that won the previous turn start the next turn and a new ring is drawn where the pig was in the previous round.
One set is usually 13 points.
History: The international Petanque federation Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal was founded in 1958 in Marseille and has about 600000 licensed players in 52 countries (2002).
The first world championships was held in 1959. Ireland has never won any great petanque tournament.

So when will Ireland win the Grand Slam again then Kev?.1948..was not only the last one...it was the only one.
How were you a part of it? How did they 'narrowly miss' the Grand Slam.....by my reckoning they were
a) thumped good and proper by 'Les Bleu' in Paris
b) Would never have beaten England if it was for their own glory, they are adept at pissing on other people's parties but never really enjoying their own.
By the way if you call that a stamping you're in cloud cuckoo land.
a) O'Driscoll was lying on the wrong side...his arse is grass, that's the rules...ask the Namibian that O Connell sorted out in the World Cup...no offence nothing to forgive.
b) It wasn't even a stamp by definition. He ran into a ruck or maul that had formed and a man on the wrong side of the ball was in his way. At pace he did well in support of his teams effort to get involved.
c) It was rather similar to Roy Keane on the Spanish goalkeeper recently....at least BOD didn't behave in such a pathetic manner and that girl in shorts did.
Congratulations on the Triple Crown...really!!...BOD and D'Arcy are in fine form at the moment, it was well deserved.
Now when will you replace that antiquity they call Lansdowne Road?

1994 in Twickenham. We beat England and ended yet another unbeaten run for England (just another way we piss on others parties )
Yup, Lansdowne needs to be rebuilt - but dont know when etc
And as for me being Part of it, was all from the crowd (although if I had brought my boots I could have stood in for O'Gara - God he was kicking badly)
