Recently, there have been discussions in which members edit post to make themselves look good. i.e. JohnHolmesJr. In some cases, nearly every post they make, they will edit. i.e. LY. Whats your take on their dishonesty and what to do?

Mr Alan
If I see spelling or grammer errors in my post, I sometimes edit them. Is there a problem with that? Would it be different if the forum software had a spell checker?

I always edit out spelling mistakes if I miss them in the preview.

However, if I add anything or change any content, I always state it is an "edit".

A member on Thai Visa completely changed his original post when I pointed out the error of his ways. When I called him on it, he virtually denied it.

I consider changing anything other than spelling mistakes a breach of manners.

Edit: I am not whining. If it happens to me I will call the errant poster on it. See how that works?

What most guys don't do is to immediately click on 'quote' if they see something they want to make note of from another member. That locks in the members words into your reply.

I am sure we all know that but changing over quickly from amused or shocked reader to a detective scooping evidence is not so easy.

Edit is a right of each member, but maybe should not be allowed after another member has followed with a post of his own. And if you want to check spelling and grammer (shudder) you can always preview your post.

Although I've put the feature to good use before (correcting spelling mistakes, slight adjustment of grammar for better conveyance of my point), I would not at all be sad to see the edit feature removed.

I think it's abused far too often, and causes discussion threads to become incoherent.

"Why are all these people angry at an earlier post? It seems so innocuous." And so on.
