I was just wondering how farangs are able to live out there? I heard it was tough to get a job in SE Asia, so are you guys just rich enough not to work? Or did you just save up and start a new business out there? If anyone actually works out there what kinds of industries are you in? Last time I was there I met a German who was a travel consultant, but he was kinda creepy... Well much appreciated as I'm wondering where to focus my career, thanks all

It's much harder to get a job in BKK than in, say, HK or Singapore. Reason: BKK is not (yet) a major domicile for regional HQs and unless you can find a job in a mostly export-oriented firm, you will need oral and written Thai to do most jobs.
Check out publications such as The Nation or the BKK Post on weekends for executive positions available to expats. However, you will probably find the same jobs also advertised in the South China Morning Post and/or The Straits Times, as this is the natural catchment area for expats in Asia.

It's an intelligence test. If you are smart enough, tough enough, persistent enough, clever enough to be able to find an unoccupied niche and make your own livelihood in Bangkok -- you pass the test.
No one in Bangkok is going to feel that life owes YOU a living, you must make your own way. Some win, some lose. Working for someone else is seldom the answer, and working for yourself isn't for everyone. I'm a successful entrepreneur now but that is after years of fits and starts.

Think about, if it would be easy for foreigners to get well-paid jobs (or any jobs) in BKK, the place would soon be crowded with expats, prices would sky-rocket even more, girls would be in short supply and the services would generally detoriate...
As a tourist, I just like it as it is...

I have been looking for work for the last two years in LOS or even Cambodia but to no avail.
With the exception of teaching English. Did get offered a post in Hai Hin (not sure if spelt right) but it is difficult to give up a job in the UK that pays £40,000 and has a very good company pension for 25,000 THBT per month
Have thought about other business ventures such as supplying expats with imported goodies they can't get in Thailand e.g. Colmans English Mustard, HP Brown Sauce etc. Then again I would need to ensure that my research was correct and have a full itinery of items not readilly available.
You expats could always help here and let me know what you would like but cant get in LOS.
Still as the song goes 'deep in my heart I do believe we shall overcome someday'

hate to break your bubble, but the mustrad and HP sauce are available now. Also as I had been trying to find my favourite item, which is only desirable to Aussies, and I had not been able to find it anywhere after searching high and low. Then yesterday I found it and if they have that here, then I believe they have most things somewhere. And what did I find 'vegemite' I am in heaven now.
