Ok lads – You’ve got a well planned holiday in front of you: Bought the ticket, Reserved hotel room, Made arrangements with local teeraks/friends, Checked your passport is up to date, Done a couple or so medical jabs, Stacked with king sized condoms, Organised your monetary budget, Tidied up your desk in the office, Off loaded your cat/dog to a hapless neighbour It is NOW time to prepare your luggage, granted that unless you’re on the small side you’ll find difficult to buy any clothing, in Thailand, that fits your farang frame. So you raid your wardrobe and bring with you a 2/3 weeks clothing supply. What is it the single item, in your luggage that you would never travel without? Sarge

Single item? Easy.. Immodium or whatever you use to glue your guts and bowels back together when you've got a bug.

A few smarmy answers... Seriously, aside from items of preference (digital camera, for me), I would be sure to pack enough changes of underwear and socks (although you can always BUY more socks, the undies may not be to your liking), because the climate dictates that you will want to change both frequently. Second on my list is some nicer COTTON t-shirts (I like Nike ones with the small 'swoosh' logo), for the same reason. All of this is because I like to walk a lot, and I go out several times a day. Which brings us to shoes: one pair nicer leather sport shoes, which you can wear in the evening, and one pair of walking/running shoes, washable, with a LOT of mesh, and little leather/plastic, for breathability. Except for big-guy stuff, most everything else can be bought locally, so why carry it? Sandals are cheap, as are medicines like Immodium. About intestinal distress: no kidding - in 20+ years of traveling to Thailand, I have had no more than 5 episodes of Montezuma's revenge, or the Aztec Quick-step, as we know it locally. And NONE of these was from a food cart, as far as I can tell. Restaurant hygiene is pretty good, and I'm pretty sure my stomach distress was from spoiled food in an indoor, sit down eatery. Just another data point. Your 'mileage' may vary. have a fun trip. haam sup

When I travel to LOS I only take carry on luggage with me. My carrying case with my DVD player and movies and a duffle bag with only 5 changes of anything. Underwear, socks, pants, shirts, 1 shorts set, swim trunks, toiletries, and a travel iron. That's it. Why? No chance of your luggage getting lost if it's with you all the time and the cost of dry cleaning in LOS ( Even for same day service ) is so cheap that bringing more clothes isn't necessary. Travel light is my motto. Peace
