I previously commited to a flight report on the above - here it comes:

On the internet search Finn Air still comes out the cheapest if flying from Oslo, Norway with change of plane in Helsinki.
The change-over time is only one hour and the access way at the airport itself is relatively easy, compared to nightmares like running between different terminals at Heathrow or different sections at Charles de Gaule or struggling through passport control at Schipool, Amsterdam with the Schengen agreement putting up adminstrative obstacles for Norwegians and other stubborn-minded patriots with an inherent dislike for meta-national political power structures (count me in amongst the anarchist -minded patriots - f*** the European Union). Hence, Finn Air for Norwegians is still a good deal. It takes you approx 11 hrs 30 minutes to get to SheWannaBoom.

However, next cheapest came out Thai Air direct flight. If I had booked 3 months in advance there where flights available in January for 700 £ /7000 NOK or less, if you do a trip-return at less than 30 days and with no right to change.
As it were I ended up paying NOK 8000/ £ 800, which still is a competitive price.

Despite 20 minus degrees, the flight departed on time, the plane is not a 747, addmittedly I never figured out the make, but it has 3 + 4 + 3 seats accross and twinn motors.
The flight was full and upon enquiry the crew told me they are usually full on each daily flight.
Since 2005 the annual number of tourist visitors from Norway to LOS has increased from 94'000 t0 150'000. So, that should more than fill a daily flight.

Food was good, however, they served wine from genuine wine bottles in the glasses you usually get cognac in, when flying BA.
That's a miserable volume of wine, so I pretended to misunderstand and had them fill white wine in the same plastic cup I drank Gin Tonic out of.
I also had them fill wine in my wife's plstic cup which she had drunk orange juice out of, but which I washed with the provided water and dried it out with my son's paper napkin.
To bring my drinking " glass and asked for cognac with my coffee, which I got.
Checking arround I seemed to be the only one with Cognac with the coffee.
If I had been operations manager fior Thai Air I would have managed the alcohol consumption on a direct flight from Norway to LOS in this way or similar. Everybody got a bit of booze and no one got drunk except me, Frank.
If I was Frank La Rue, which I was, I would have undertaken the evasive measure to avoid limitations on my alcohol consumption, in order to have a flight the way I like it (I start to sound like Nokna here)

The plane had a great inflight entertainment system with screens for each seat, individual selection of TV, audio music, Movies and games.
There is a great section for flight details with time info on departure location, destination, camera to watch the ground, satelite connection, satelite telephone, MAP with plane location, temperatures and tail wind info etc, etc.
The only negative was that the screen in front of my seat froze 2/3 way though the flight.
I reverted to reading "The Economist" and Time Magazine - Chuckie's heart would have softened if he knew the republican dogmatist views I sucked in and agreed to.
Daffy would have argued in an offensive manner just for the sake of it.
The only minus compared to some other airlines like Singapore Airways is that they do not offer self sevice in the gantry during flight, where you can go and pick snacks, chockolates and soft drinks just to kill time and boredom.
But you can go there and chat with the taff - male and female - and they will serve you drinks if you ask them

The flight time is 9hrs and 50 minutes, you save minimum 2 hours against Finn Air and 3 -4 hours compared to anyone else, for a competitive price with the same service.
Definitely an improvement for travelers to LOS from Norway, with a competitive advantage on flight time which I think and hope means that this flight offer has come to stay.

if u r ever really THAT bothered / curious about what plane you are on (model / make etc) the air safety card in the seat back pocket etc will say on it, boeing 777, airbus 340 etc because the diagrams and exits differ for each make

if you are a real anorak, get the planes tail sign, then you can check on pilot's forums etc about its safety record too (bit late after I know!)

Frank, whatever happened to Nokna? He sent me some photos a few years back and then went dark. You still communicate with him?

I assume you are saying 700 euros? That seems expensive but if the seat availability is tight then they can charge those prices I suppose.
From the UK flights are looking quite cheap at the moment.
I just received an email from Travelbag, a London based agency, and they have seats on Kuwait Air for £380 change in Kuwait of course. Or direct from £460 on Eva. When I went to LOS two months ago ticket on Thai was £480.
Not that I am interested but Thai beach holidays are almost give away with 14 nights in 4 star hotels in Phuket and Koh Samaui on offer for £650
including flights! how they make that pay I don't know.

I met up with him in the winter of 2004, had dinner and a few beers. Since then he has kind of faded from the various forums. He had a Philipino girlfriend at the time and was working in Brighton I think it was, in a hospital

further to this never ending saga with thai, I just logged on and in dec they normally credit me with 5000 miles which means I get the comp upgrade,

but this time no bonus miles,

will be flying monday so will check in the office, im sure you only need 50,000 miles for this or has it changed,

eva air is looking pretty good now,

new 777's direct, like SIA but cant be bothered to change in changi,

what is the mileage needed with eva to get a decent status ?.

i think when thai get their new planes all these freebies will be gone

thoughts??

thanks

That's really expensive! About £850 GBP compared to say an average through the year of £500 from London.
Obviously you have done this already, but wouldn't it be always cheaper to fly to London and then onto LOS via Eva or Thai? I have had fares as low as £380, and never more than £550 (depending on time of year)
As I say, currently in the region of £460 direct from Heathrow going direct.

I guess being "IssanKing"only helps when Thai Air flies directly form "Yourabouts " to Issan Airport.

Otherwise you have to be the Siamking - but that post is occupied.

Personally I am opting for Kanchanaburi-Chancellor with VIP seat on Thair for me and my family and Limousine from SWB.

Flew Thai Air direct from LAX > BKK for a 1st try

about 16 hours over then 14 back... they use an Airbus so seating arrangements are very spacious from 1st, econ premuim, and econ... prices are on the high side though with premium econ at $1400.... seating was comfortable, music and movies choices were good, drink and food service was good although still buffet taste

for a non - stop flight its very convenient bypassing HK JP TW and the rush n wait for next flight out routine
leaves LAX at 11pm then BKK arrives around 7am outbound beats weird arrival times at 2am nights BKK

if you build enough Star Alliance points up the cost can be reduced few 100 bucks

I would fly it again next round
