Mr Alan
I just checked the United Airlines website for mid-December, and they do have a flight from NRT to BKK (and back). It is a 747-400. United has had flights from several US gateways to NRT for quite a while.

Are you a Premier member with UAL?  Do you have  FF account with them?

I am not a premier member, they just told me on the phone that I would get 19,000 ff miles for this trip.

I can vouch that UA does indeed have NRT - BKK service.  I flew them on a code-share myself.  777 if I recall and it was okay.  Seats were much closer pitch compared to AA, but much better than NW IMO.

BTW, you can get 20,000 bonus miles on UA by getting this card...

http://www.firstusa.com/...

Get this card, take your trip to BKK and you'll have a "free" domestic ticket or upgrade (for ~ USD$61).

jj,

Damn, then someone painted the747 I saw in HKG last April in United Colors.  But when I flew it to Singapore they were wearing United unifroms.  And the times I flew from Hkg to SFO and HKG to Chicago all last year (6 Times), I assume those planes were also disguised as United Aircraft.

For a fact the SIN - HKG - US route was suspended in late April due to SARS.  The HKG to US leg was restored in June, the HKG - SIN leg start up again tomorrow.

Damn, I am booked to SFO via HKG next week, I guess it is still there...

Mr A, PS, Two points for y'all and 2 cane strokes for me.  UA 838 NRT - BKK, they must have slipped that in on me.  However I usually do the SIN - US or SIN - BKK RTs so I admit I was wrong.

jj,

Been a 1K flyer for several years.. actually since the times of Hilda the Nazi Stewardess (you have to be a regular UA flyer to know that story).

China what are you blathering about again?
You said UA  did not fly into BKK and it had to codeshare with TG. You also said that UAL flew HKG-BKK. YOU WERE WRONG! The rest  have just asured  dougr that UA does fly into BKK on it's own metal. No one was talking about HKG-SIN or HKG-SFO or SIN-SFO.

MAybe your GF's daddy the "Chinese General" can help you unserdtand commercial flight routes next time you talk to him.  I am surprised you have not bragged to us that you fly on Chinese militarty transporters.

Have any of you guys tried flying with Cathay Pacific.  I fly out of San Fran mostly, and used KAL for years, as I like the FF miles, that went along with Delta.  But the long lay over 'killed me'.  The last two year we have used Cathay and found some good deals, they stop over on HK and then get you into Bangkok around Noon.
Excellent service and nice plane!!!

CX is my favorite carrier to fly to BKK.  Evening departures Stateside and Afternoon departures from BKK. Plus the 3hrs from HKG- BKK beats the hell out of the 6hrs from Nrt-bkk. Excellent  carrier and service. Become a meber of the  Marc Polo Club which automatically enrolls you in Asiamiles.  The program is not the greatest compared to US carrier programs but if you at least make silver(I'm gold) you get access to the lounges and all of the perks of early boarding, checkin and baggage allowances.

EVA is another that runs a similar time route like CX, Eva(BR) is also another good carrier for the money.

If ou have the money to spend fly CX and if you are on a tight budget fly BR.. They are both very good in their niches.

Doug, you seem to have everything down, but don't settle for 15,000 miles on the credit card.  If you follow the link above you can get a full 20,000 for the same effort.
