market prices say the brits pay more then anyone else.
people think we are more well paid then the rest of the world and therefore we pay more for consumer goods.

Actually one of the reasons we pay more is the cost of landing slots at Heathrow Airport. The busiest International airport in the World is Heathrow. The second busiest International Airport in the world is Gatwick. More international flights per day.
The busiest airport in the world is O'Hare...but it handles maily domestic.
Heathrow is considered the airport to fly to in Europe....and as a result it charges huge landing fees, it is considered prestigious to land there rather than Gatwick and the airlines pay for the priviledge.

I always book flights from London->BKK through Bridge The World. They always do special deals where you can get huge discounts if you book a few nights accom with them as well. Last year I got a return flight (British Airways) with them for 340 GBP.
