Wednesday, Air Asia flight BKK-HKT left 5 mins early. They left the gate while the TG flight (scheduled 10 minutes earlier) was still boarding. Guess which flight I was on. EVERY airline has late flights and early flights, if I swore I would not fly an airline after I had a bad experience with them, I would have to SWIM to Bangkok.

FWIW- I flew them RT to Singapore last month and had a perfectly normal airline experience. Bought my ticket in cash at their booth inside Tesco adjoining On Nut BTS. Cost was about 4k baht- seemed both very reasonable and of good value.

I've used Air Asia several times from Phuket to BKK and never had a problem with them. You get what you pay for, which is f*** all. What would you rather do, travel by bus?

My flight with Air Asia from Haadyai to Kuala Lumpur on 13 April 2005 was delayed for about 5 hours causing me to miss my flight to my next destination after Kuala Lumpur. I had to stay overnight in Kual Lumpur and catch the next flight out of Kuala Lumpur the next day. This caused me a set-back of about 3,000 baht in terms of accommocation, transport and meals. The reason for the constant delays is insufficient planes. If one flight is delayed, it causes a snow-balling effect, causing ALL the subsequent flights to be delayed.

The tickets are on offer on the airline's website http://www.airasia.com until July 14 and passengers can fly from July 17 until March 24, 2007. Domestic fares start at Bt299 for Bangkok to Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani. While prices for Hat Yai, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Narathiwat, Surat Thani, Krabi and Phuket start at Bt399. International prices are Bt499 for Bangkok to Phnom Penh, Penang and Singapore, while seats to Hanoi start at Bt799, Macao, Bt899 and Xiamen, Bt999. During its travel fair in Bangkok last week, the airline sold 20,000 tickets. The airline's chief executive, Tassapon Bijleveld, said fuel surcharges, insurance, administration fees and airport taxes would be tacked onto all discounted fares. Tassapon said the airline generated profits of around Bt10 million from January to March. He said the airline's revenue goal for 2006 was Bt4 billion and its expected passenger count was three million passengers. Last year, the airline logged sales of Bt2.4 billion from 1.8 million passengers. The airline, which flies to 16 destinations of which 10 are domestic, will add two more Boeing 737-300 aircraft to its fleet this year.
