So, in other words, taking everyone else's information into account, bitpump is just whining about his own mistakes, and ignorance, and trying to evade responsibility for his own actions by blaming a taxi driver and Bangkok Air for it... oh, wait, that's essentially what everyone else has been saying....

I know you guys think you know Krunthep better than I do, which you might. However, Asoke was completely empty today at 10:10am when we were there. You also should know that even if I was requesting to go a longer route, I think since I AM PAYING FOR THE RIDE, my wishes should be honored and not ignored. Also I requested the driver to stop and let me out of that taxi (since obviously we disagree on how to proceed) and just pay him and take another cab. He disregarded my request and continue on another expressway route. Hey, you are entitled to your opinion, however I disagree with you. In regards to DaffyDuck just read his "Why Macs Suck" statement. I would also consider that as whining

A few years back I had a driver need to fuel his CNG tank on the way to the Don Maung so I got an interesting tour of BKK. But he did not trip the meter until he had finished fueling.

When the new airport opened I did have one case where the taxi got on the wrong road but that was 2 weeks after it opened and the signage sucked.

The last time I was in town the driver went the Rama IX route and it was both faster and cheaper.

In a non-airport case I had a driver get totally lost taking to a building on Asoke. He apologized, let me off next to a tourist info point and did not charge me a fare. The funny thing was that he let me off right in front of the building I needed.

Personally I think that my fellow Americans should restricted to tour groups until they can pass a qualification course on how to travel overseas and deal with foreign envrionments. We would have a lot more friends in the world if they did...

I often see that people who are the most critical of other posters are people who are failures at life. They have nothing in their life except to put others down. I relate my experiences in Muan Thai to assist others so they do not make the same mistakes. If you find it useful then good, if not then save your demeaning comments to yourself. I disregard those comments anyway, so you are just showing your own ignorance and futility at life

Obviously -- and you posted three replies so far just to drive the point home how much you ignore such comments.

Whatever!

Failures at life, eh bitpump?

We are not the people having problems with taxis here.

I have said this before on this Forum and I will say it again.

People who come to Asia and expect to have the same rights and treatment as they have at home are idiots. Every time someone (like you bitpump) creates a scene in front of their hosts it reinforces the attitudes that Farang are a bunch of spoiled, rude, sex tourists who are only good for the money they bring.

This makes it very difficult on the Expats who live, work, and own businesses here in Asia. Do us a favor bitpump and stick to a tour group next time.

BTW: There has been no record of a Farang being kidnapped or mugged by a taxi driver in LOS.

Another thing bitpump, you better stay away from Manila and Angeles City, taxi drivers in the PI have kidnapped and robbed foreigners, especially easy marks like you...

If we get back to the original subject, how can one expect a "crooked" Taxi to drive a straight line?
Alternatively it could have also been a free tour option.

regards
Mel.

... In fact, I have read about this Bangkok taxi that robbed a swedish tourist. http://www.pattayamail.com/295/news.htm#hd1

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The supporting link quoted is to a story in the Pattaya Mail about an alleged (IMO doubtful) robbery of a tourist in March of 1999 !!!.... Eight years ago....Given the choice I'd take my "Muan Thai" travel advice from the taxi driver. Enjoy.

Tourist heads to airport, wakes up in Pattaya

Robbed by Bangkok taxi driver

Imagine the feeling. One moment you’re sitting in a metered taxi on the way to the airport, seemingly the next moment you’re waking up in Pattaya without money or luggage.

That’s apparently what happened to 47 year old Swedish tourist Lars Christer Jonsson.

Jonsson wandered into the Pattaya tourist police station on March 23rd to report that a taxi driver had robbed him.

Jonsson told police that on Sunday the 21st of March he withdrew a sum of money from a bank on Silom Road on his way to the airport. "I then went into an outdoor restaurant with my luggage. I ordered a drink, a coffee, and orange juice. I then went into the toilet, but took my luggage with me. When I got back to my table to continue drinking my drinks, I noticed a taxi driver sitting beside my table staring at me. The driver approached me and asked me where I was going. I told him the airport. He offered to take me there for 300 Baht, but I told him no, I wanted to take a metered taxi. The man agreed to open his meter, so I got into his car with all my belongings. After I sat in the car, I remembered nothing. I woke up in Pattaya, with no money and all my luggage gone."

Never leave your drinks unattended. Never.

Clearly bitpump really needs to reach, far, in order to maintain being right - despite nearly everyone (no, make that EVERYONE) disagreeing with his asessment.
