Someone once suggested a service where you could place an order for a few sets of clothes (and whatever else) that you need for the trip, send them your sizes, you choice of shirts, pants, colors, etc. Someone will purchase it for you locally, and pack it in a bag and it will be ready waiting for you at the hotel when you arrive. This way, you don't need to pack anything but a small carry on with some essentials when you travel.

The packing in my case is limited by my choice of travel bag - the rucksack for the PC.
I always bring my laptop and have found that I can bring three sets of underwear/socks and shirts to go.
I always travel with clothing suitable for the destination, i.e. LOS so I skip coat, boots etc if it is in the winter at my point of embarkment, I tip toe to the taxi by the stairs, are taken to the airport train and wear a light, short jacket containing Passports some cash and credit cards.

I use the laundry service in the hotel and get the toiletries on the plane/ buy locally.

The only problem is the shoes. I travel with light, comfortable shoes which go well with jeans AND slacks or suit - type throusers, I usually like to bring both a pair of jeans which I wear on the plane and a nice pair of throusers for entertainment and pursuits. Probably this has something to do with age, I want to dress in a way which becomes someone who grew up with Emerson Lake & Palmer - the "Pattaya Attire" - tank top, shorts and sandals whilst mongering, was never my thing.

A 2nd pair of shoes, simply does not fit into the bag. So I either travel wit one pair only or buy a pair if I need one for the occation.

I only ever have carryon bags and no check in. Usually an ultra light & tough Kevlar bag; a day pack, Korjo money belt; and maybe a bum bag. Because of time/hygiene/baht factors - I try to not to use the hotel laundry or to do my own washing or to have to go off and buy things.

For 5-7 day trips I usually pack about 5 each of polo shirts; undies; pairs of socks; 1 pair pants; 1 pair shoes; enough sampler toiletries to fill the 100mm square clear pouch for the airport goons.

So including a mini umbrella and some other stuff – I am under 15-20kgs and am assured of a rapid exit from the airport. I use a Space Bag to “vacuum compress” my clothes and this saves a lot of space as well.

On your last day you call the reception and ask them to send you a vacuum cleaner? Or you take it from home with you? I mean, you do need one to do the "vacuum compressing." Right?

One tip I have is I usually bring an oversized backpack and roll my cloths up as it really saves a ton of room as opposed to folding...obviously you cant do this with biz suits/shirts, but aside from that it is a great method....

Same as HappyJohnny suggested - Basically, they are able to compress your clothes to half their bulk, and everything turns into a thin, compact plastic brick. It's brilliant, and it makes travel and packing much easier that ever before.

There was a story in the news recently about someone who had stolen a camera getting arrested thanks to the Internet. It seems they had stolen a camera that had some type of built in wi-fi capability.
Greatest innovation every - the eye-FI card:

I'll get to test the geotagging feature out on my next trip, which should work well along with iPhoto's new feature to organize pictures by Places.

In addition, if you are worried about the content of your memory card, the WiFi card can be configured to automatically upload your pictures to the site of your choice, or even your own PC/Mac - so when you travel back, all that's on your card are pictures of the airport

If your itinerary does not require business suits, shirts, shoes, and ties, or the need to patronise establishments with conservative dress codes, the dedicated minimalist can reduce his luggage to an overnight bag weighing about 9 kg.
You just described my first trip -- I took my friend's advice to 'travel light' to heart, and packed exactly a small gym bag - two t-shirts, 3 days worth of underwear and socks, my laptop, a pair of swim trunks, a pair of shorts, and some toiletries.

Worked out well for the 12 days of my first trip.

So I either travel with one pair only or buy a pair if I need one for the occasion.
Good advice - quite a few folks could do with a pair.

SMEG – No need for the vacuum cleaner when you're meant to be getting a good sucker from NEP or SOL. Right? – lol.

Actually Daffs is right – Its this...

Given the technique involved, I would think the "spacesaving" compression bags will leave your shirts and pants a mess of wrinkles. But perhaps they are good for your socks and underwear, bathing suit, that kind of thing.

The trick of course is to travel light and only pack what you need. The nice thing about SOL is that it has stores where decent stuff can be purchased if need be.

I have found that there is always a cheap outside laundry service near the hotels where I stay that do a fine job. Using the in-house service is a rip-off. But by relying on the laundry service I can get away with packing only 5 days worth of clothing.

I always try to pack some nice clothes (for the clubs) and casual clothes (shorts, Ts) for the beach, Soi 6, hanging at the outside bars, dealing with the heat. And I always pack one good pair of shoes. Even in SOL they will judge a man by his shoes.

You don't really need to take much more than a plastic Tesco carrier bag containing a six pack of beer and a spare pair of undies.
