Then again, if you enjoy Pattaya, Phuket will be an improvement for being cleaner, as will Samui 
Personally, I really like Koh Chang -- it's isolated, there are very few tourists there, prices are inexpensive/reasonable, the people are friendly, and the beaches are beautiful. There's plenty of options of places to stay at - my last trip, I stayed 5 days at the KC Grande in one of their better rooms (at 5,000 Baht per night, it's a bit pricey, but it's a really nice place). My next time I plan on staying at Siam Bay Resort, which seems to be in an even dreamier location.

Great information. I really very much appreciate people's help and advice here on the forums it is very helpful.
I liked Koh Chang but as I'm coming in June I worried a bit as some people said it was too rainy. Is it rainier than Samui or Phukt in June or about the same?
After a couple of replies here I became concerned about the rain and Stickman's horrifying tale of fat white women crushing Thai guys under their ponderous bulk. I wondered if Koh Chang was the horrifying place where western women went for naughty Thai guy times...I'm afraid my eye balls might melt out of my head.
I enjoy the company of respectable mongers with beer bellies and comb-overs but the thought of sharing my precious time in LOS with foul tempered judgemental (and fat) western "women" turns me off something fierce.
I can deal with the daily rain then clearing if it's not totally a cloud burst all day and night for 3 weeks. The 1st times I was in Phuket and Samui years ago it was raining. I am a Cheap Charlie and always got good deals in off season. In Season Chiang Mai is nice I hate getting screwed in Phuket by every shyster possible in high season. I'd hoped to do a little diving and while it doesn't have to be perfect I was wondering if anyone knows what the cis is like there that type of year. Sounds like the BG and Bar scene is good though. Having said that I'd make damn sure to avoid the fat white chick or dread locked backpacker festivals. 
Your reply makes Koh Chang look pretty good. So I guess bottom line is that if the diving is half way decent (no rainier than Samui in June) and the place isn't over run with bad attitude western women then it seems like a decent bet. Looks like the Bar scene may be okay as well.

Well, I can't judge the bar scene in KC, as I usually 'bring my own' from Bangkok, which makes things usually far more pleasant, to me at least. I do know where the girls are (the little bar beer area on White Sand), but haven't really ever found anything worth my attention there - so, to me, KC is a BYOBG kinda place.
I was there once in the June/July season, and while there have been regular down pours on a daily basis, they have usually been shortlived - and the water is warm. Then again, I was just there in March, and had similar downpours on several of the days, though usually afternoons.
As for Whale-like farang women on the prowl for Thai Boy Toy meat? Haven't seen any, myself -- although a friend of mine who was there earlier this year saw one that had an extremely gorgeous Thai Girl Toy in tow... Either way, I usually filter farang women out when in LOS, so not an issue for me, and thankfully I don't know any venues where they are in the majority ;-O
If diving's your thing, I can't give you a reasonable response either -- I only snorkle, and generally when I head out there, it's an afterthought, not my main purpose.

Last question I swear: how was the snorkelling? I only ask because if the snorkellling is okay then the diving is usually good.
As for the Bar scene I plan to BMOTG (Thai wife). I know it's like putting bells on a cat..Kryptonite etc. But it's still fun to at least see the little Beer Bars...
Good to know that the Chang nam kaao ladies seem to be hiding in the underbrush generally and not under foot.
