The free tourist 60 day visa has been extended. It was supposed to go back to $35 March 4th, but it being free has been extended for it looks like another year, but not sure about that part. You can get 2 for free, so with the extentions you can get, you can stay in the country for roughly 6 months with only having to do a border crossing once.

If you plan on coming back into Thailand overland, you better have the 60 day visa, or you will only get a 15 day stamp. 30 days if returning by air.

AND, bring back the Doc........

He had a Delta RT ticket to BKK where the return date was over 30 days from departure. The agent stated that Delta policy prohibits boarding of passengers whose travel dates exceed 30 days and the passengers do not have a visa.
I can verify this Delta policy, as it happened to me in Feb 2010. I was denied boarding, unless I changed my return ticket date to within 30 days, or could produce an onward ticket.

I had planned to make a visa run, but the way I figured, I had 30 days to decide where. Delta did NOT see it that way.

Of course, a penalty fee was charged to change the return date. I did ask to speak to a supervisor, and was still denied boarding. "It's in writing", which they showed me. As I had to be there, I paid the penalty and changed the return date, which I subsequent changed back once in Thailand - seems the LOCAL Delta agents understand the way things work here.

In hindsight, I should have bought a FULL fare, RT ticket BKK-anywhere when I was denied boarding, got to BKK, and asked for a ticket refund. Would have been cheaper.

I flew United to Bangkok on Feb 3, 2010 and my return flight was on March 28, 2010, which was more than 30 days. United didn't give me any problems.

Just an update for those in the USA planning a trip in the next few months.

Getting the free tourist visas expire on March 31 2011, and you can get 3, that is Three, of them until the end of March 2011. It has always been 2 stamps, but now you can get 3.

Just so there is no confusion by anyone, If you apply before the end of March, that is March 31st 2011, you can get up to 3 tourist visa stamps for free. With the one month extensions that is almost 9 months worth of visas....hehehe.

After March it is still not decided if the program is going to be extended, but with tourist numbers still down, I speculate that it will be.

Many time when I go to Thailand I book tickets for over 30 days (let say 45 to 60 days), then I go outside Thailand for a week in the middle of my stay (burma, cambodia or nepal) never got a problem so far at the time of boarding.

Still I expect one of those day to have one of thos oh-so-friendly custom guy trying to stop me at immigration,
so I allway have with me a pre-booking for an outbound plane...its just something printed from the net, in french so that there is no chance he can see its not an actual booking...still it has my name, passport number, a departure/arrival date and outside destination that I can point to him.

Much more convenient (and cheaper) to do like this than to buy all plane tickets from here, and also more convenient and cheaper than to get the 2 month visa from the Thai embassy
