They had that stuff working from Pattaya over 12 years ago- some will always remember 7-8 years ago when krypto ran a service run (we are an adventerous lot)
Thing is blonk your experiences I can read between lines
What I like about you is not so much the 100% accurancy you report with but your willingness to try stuff.
In the brief time I have read you -you have exposed yourself to counrty boredom - and villagers-

I might be one who say knows the info about it taking an hour to the airport is just on the side of CAUTION- and the odds of your girlies Thai mother giving you 500,000 are about the same as an asteroid the size of which killed out the dinosaurs hitting -
But it can and does happen-
Maybe it belongs on weird or what show?
Point is you are learning things quick and have the spirit of adventure-
You remind me of the times years ago I had doing the same-

On the expressway question:
I usually stay at Majestic Suites, and I expect it is faster to take the expressway exit at Asoke, rather than take the "Soi 0" exit.
I don't speak Thai, I've never been successful suggesting the route. So we cut through the Bumrungrad parking lot, drive past Nana and loop back up Soi 6 to Sukhumvit. When I arrive after midnight, driving around Nana is a zoo.
When I try to say "exit at Asoke then turn right on Sukhumvit", it hasn't seemed to click with the driver. What should I call the expressway exit for Asoke, any language / name tips? Talking louder and slower hasn't seemed to help here... If I wanted to say "1st State Expy Sukhumvit Exit no good" (the google map name for soi zero exit), what would I call it?

Unfortunately I usually don't recognize the Asoke area turn off until I've passed it... I'm a tourist.
I can do "here, here here", once we get to the hotel.
Perhaps not worrying about it is the best approach.

The only issue is the traffic and time involved. Leave early. The fees are about the same, maybe a little cheaper if you negotiate.
Recently, it took me over an hour to get from the airport to BKK Soi 18 at about 0800 in the morning leaving the airport.
Go upstairs after you (buy your SIM card and visit the ATM), get to arrival level hallway (it is the area from customs and baggage collection), and grab a taxi that is pulling up to drop off at departure (negotiate).
On the way back to the airport for the departure, it took over 2 hours to get to the airport from BKK Soi 18 because of traffic. I left the hotel at 1600.
It was a mistake, I should have left the hotel earlier.
