Skytrains' services suspended at all stations
=============================

BTS authority has suspended service of all skytrain stations after red shirts leaders called for the protesters to destroy all stations.

Earlier BTS suspended only four stations near the Rajaprasong rally sites; Chidlom, Ploenchit, Rajdamri and Siam. All entrances and exits were shut down.

Red shirts leaders told the cheering crowds that BTS is servants of Amataya, and urged the protesters to go and destroyed the stations.

Guards of red shirts protesters use black plastic bags to cover security cameras of skytrain stations near Rajprasong rally sites.

Thai TV reported that red shirts leaders told the protesters to gather together, saying the government will disperse them soon.

BTS trains will run from 6 am to 8 pm until further notice
===========================================

Bangkok's Skytrain system will start its services from 6am to 8 pm from Wednesday instead of 6 am to midnight.

"Our services will operate as normal between 6am and 8pm," Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) director Dr Anat Arbhabhirama said Tuesday, "We plan to keep this schedule from April 28 onward".

So far, he did not rule out the possibility of an abrupt change.

In an announcement posted on the BTS web site, Anat said BTS might change the schedule if any emergency arose.

Trial of airport rail link postponed
=========================

The trial service of the airport rail link, which was scheduled to begin on Friday, has been postponed indefinitely because of the continuing political unrest, Transport Minister Sohpon Zarum said on Thursday.

The announcement came after the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation voiced concerns about the political unrest stemming from the red-shirt rallies.

"We are concerned about the safety of the passengers," Mr Sohpon told reporters.

The airport rail link runs between the city air terminal at Makkasan in central Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi airport.

Mr Sohpon said the postponement of the trial service will not affect the commercial opening of the rail link, which is set for July 2010.

... same today, as reported elsewhere in the forum yesterday:

... BTS continues operating on limited hours (6.00a-8.00p)... as normal, the morning commute is jammed to wall-to-wall... beginning Wednesday night (28 April 2010), the BTS has maybe 30-50 military and police patrolling the walkway levels of each station... armed with light weapons, and suited-up with body armour.

... interestingly, this morning, I noted the ammo belt of a troop, armed with a 12-guage assault shotgun... he is carrying "00" buckshot... with a military load, these are lethal... quite effective at close ranges out to about 25-30 yards.

... also, none of the police I saw were armed.

8% revenue growth next stop for skytrain - B10bn set aside to buy trains for new routes
==============================================================

Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTSC), the elevated train operator under BTS Group Holding Plc, expects its revenue to increase by 8% this year from 4.2 billion baht in 2009 despite the negative impact from the prolonged red-shirt demonstrations.

BTSC is preparing to invest at least 10 billion baht in acquiring new trains to serve its plan to expand the Skytrain route from 28 kilometres at present to 43 km next year, said Keeree Kanjanapas, chairman of BTS Group.

"Even though our business has been disrupted from time to time by the protests, we are confident we can achieve revenue growth of 8% this year. Last year, our turnover was 2% above the target," Mr Keeree said as BTS shares began trading yesterday on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

The Skytrain operator will add 12 more trains to the 34 in service at present. Average ridership is expected to be close to 500,000 by the year-end after peaking at 580,000 on weekdays this year, he added.

The skytrain had been among the casualties of the anti-government United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), which has forced reductions of operating hours and even some service suspensions, causing a drop in ridership.

Mr Keeree said earlier that average revenue declined to 9.5 million baht per day from 11 million baht when service hours were shortened by four hours recently.

BTS, formerly known Tanayong Plc (TYONG), yesterday floated 28.16 million new shares on the Stock Exchange of Thailand under the transport and logistics sector at the price of 0.63 baht each.

The listing was made after Tanayong, the property developer founded by Mr Keeree, acquired 15 million shares or 94.6% of BTS in a transaction worth 40 billion baht.

SET president Pattareeya Benjapolchai said that with market capitalisation of 44.8 billion baht, BTS has become the second company floating shares on the local bourse this year after the listing of Indorama Ventures (IVL), the world's second-largest polyethylene terephthalate (PET) producer, in February.

The two listings have made the SET much closer to its target of expanding market capitalisation by 100 billion baht this year, she said."Consolidating businesses under BTS, which include Tanayong's property and the group's trains and related operations such as advertising, has enhanced the company's liquidity and attractiveness to investors," said Ms Pattareeya.

At the same time, it allows the public to acquire the shares of the Skytrain which is a major infrastructure service in Bangkok, she added.

Mr Keeree said BTS might consider mobilising addition funding from the capital market to serve its business expansion in the future.

The company aims to operate the five-kilometre route from Onnuj to Soi Baring and the five-kilometre section linking Wong Wian Yai with Bang Wa next year.

More trains have to be bought to serve the expansion.

BTSC earned 4.2 billion baht in its last fiscal year ending in March, an increase of 6% from a year earlier, with EBITDA (earning before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) of 2.5 billion baht.

In June, BTS will issue 12 billion rights offering (RO) shares at one baht par as part of the group's restructuring, Mr Keeree added.

After the restructuring, BTS is now 41.46% owned by Mr Keeree and his son Kavin, with Siam Capital and Siam Infrastructure holding 30.12% and 13.85%, respectively, with the balance held by minority shareholders.

Four BTS stations to be closed at 6pm

from: BangkokPost May 13th, 2010

Skytrain services will run normally until midnight but four stations - Ploenchit, Chidlom, Siam and Ratchadamri - will be closed from 6pm Thursday, the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) announced.

The BTS made the announcement after the government's Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) said security forces will lay siege to the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship's (UDD) protest site at Ratchaprasong intersection from 6pm today in an attempt to end the six-week anti-government rally.

The BTS said it will assess the situation before deciding about Friday's elevated train services.

Bangkok Metro Public Company Limited (BMCL) corporate director Chartchai Praditpong said underground train services will continue until midnight as usual.

The CRES had not informed them about the immediate crackdown on the protesters, but measures had been prepared if unexpected incidents occur.

Two subway stations to shut at 6pm
============================

Subway trains will operate as normal on Thursday except that two stations will be closed, Silom and Lumpini, in the evening, operator Bangkok Metro Plc (BMCL) said in the afternoon.

The service at Silom and Lumpini stations will end at 6pm on Thursday. Other stations will stay open to midnight as usual.

The station closures follow the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation's announcement that troops would surround red-shirt rally site at Ratchaprasong to seal off the area from 6pm.
