No single unified pass. But each service will sell you a refillable card.

Both BTS and MRT have their own day passes, as SidWenes pointed out, they are not unified.

... I just quipped elsewhere on the Thai floodwater management plans: "Thais plan; the gods laugh."

... surprised that planning this takes 3 yeats... the Germans would have in operational by the weekend, but they'd probably have to throw a few crooked Thai bureaucrats and politicians under the train... so worth it, though.

BTS smartpass sale will be stopped on 20th may....
why I have no clue...
too convenient to avoid the long queue...
better to have to wait for some change and then wait again for a pass...and of course even better to close half the machines at peak hours...

thai logic at work...

Less paper trail means more chance for cash to be misplaced.

Where did you see this news ?

How does this effect existing BTS Smartpasses? I have a pass with several hundred baht on it, ready for my next trip. I hope you are joking, buying a single journey ticket is a pain in the arse.

most likely due to the release Rabbit Card (similar to the Octopus Card in HKG) - has the orange rabbit logo above the BTS Tellers

excerpt:

new combined ticket for the BTS Skytrain and MRT Subway.

Rabbit will be available on 23rd April for those who have a 30-day BTS pass and wish to exchange it for a new Rabbit card. For everyone else, Rabbit will be available on 1st May. Rabbit can be obtained by exchanging existing BTS cards – a 50 baht refundable deposit will be required. If someone wants Rabbit and does not have a BTS card to exchange, that person would need to pay a 50 baht issuing fee and 50 baht refundable deposit.

Rabbit can be used for travel and passes on the BTS as well for making purchases at approximately 12 retail chains (such as McDonald’s, Starbucks, etc).

Rabbit is expected to be available for use on MRT by end of 2012. The system is currently being implemented on that network. Rabbit holders who enroll in Carrot Rewards after May 1 can earn “Carrot Points” when they “top up” their Rabbit and when they travel on BTS. Other retail partners, such as McDonald’s offer Carrot Points and other benefits.

cheers
