I do not know the Thai system but with the increased awareness of terrorist travelings, I would imagine all incoming flight passenger manifests would be available to the authorities long before the flight lands. All flights have passenger manifests reflecting name, nationality, passport number and seat assignment. This manifest is likely provided to Thai Immigration by the airline prior to landing and could very well be in Immigration's computer system. All speculation on my part but based on some inside information.

Makes sense to me. I know they scan my passport whenever I leave or arrive back in Germany. Never noticed elsewhere, but would not be suprised if they knew my mothers maiden name in Bangkok International.. It doesn`t really bother me either, I have nothing to hide, better safe than sorry... TC

Thanks EPC. Reckon it sounds logical. Never sure how much one country shares with another. But come to think about it, I guess if your allowing a bunch of people to land in your country, least another country could do is tell 'em who's coming to dinner.

fm: This is not country to country transfer. It would come from the Airline Station Manager located at Don Muang. The manifest is made up by the airline at the departure point and forwarded to the destination upon takeoff. Manifests are useful in identifying and notifying next of kin in the event an airliner augers in and ruins all the passengers day. I would almost bet your next months salary the authorities get them well before touchdown in BKK, as well as other destinations worldwide. The US now requires them for any inbound flight to the US.

EPC. and I guess cooperation levels between agencies has increased since 9/11 for all modes of transport. As TC said, us ordinary civilians should be positive about it. By the way I renewed my passport at the Canadian consulate in Shanghai, and it doesn't read electronically. So I get some funny looks at immigration and they have to punch in the numbers. The U.S.A. restricts them now I believe?

fm: If that last is a question? Yes, all US passport renewals must now go back to the US to be electronically prepared. Embassies can only issue temporary travel documents and can no longer issue full blown passports. We send our employees passports to Riyadh where they are couriered back to the US for issuance. I believe it is done in New Jersey if my failing memory serves me correctly. The entire process takes 4-6 weeks for renewal now. Used to be done in two days. It may be different in Thailand but I think not.

VOA stands for "Voice Of America". FT stand for "Free Throw". ST stands for "Standard Transmission". Starfish stands not at all. She just lies there like a....uum, er...well, a starfish. KASOH stands for "Keep a Sense of Humor". You done fine but KASOH at all times. VOA = Visa on Arrival

DJB1981, an additional note, if you want to stay a little longer, you can have your Visa extended for another 10 days at the Thai Immigration (at Suan Phlu) for a fee of 1,900B, without having to exit the country. Good to know... just in case.
