I got perscription sleeping pills, only just enough of them to last me the trip, wasn't a problem getting them from the doctor and cost around $6 including payment for the appointment.
I'm also bringing a book, a CD Player (with extra batteries) and a portable chess set (hey, you never know).

If you are in coach make sur that you get a window seat so you can lean against the wall and get a few winks. If your in a middle or aisle you can't get into as many positions.
I also flew United from Narita and had many good looking Thai wenchs on the plane.

I also have the same problem sleeping on a plane, so before I went the first time last May I did bite the bullet and bought a portable DVD player and took some disks with me to keep me occupied. Only problem is that there are no electrical outlets in the econ sections and the battery only last for THREE HOURS! And to think I went back again in Sept.  Peace

Sorry I left out one important fact. There was a crew switch for all flights departing out of Asian cities. So NRT to BKK route, I had plenty of cute Thai stewardesses to tend to me. I was referring to flights out of US gateway cities, like LAX to NRT for example. On one flight, I had an Indian woman as my flight attendant. I would have guessed she was at least 50.

So the consencious is the Asian owned airlines have the best service and prettiest stews (also free drinks). That the US/Canadian airlines have the worst service and matronily stews. Why am I not surprised? Maybe UAL should hire ladyboys. At least you would be getting bad service from something more attractive than the current stews. I'm sure the San Franciso flights would become very popular!
