How do you know that I am 5'6"? 
I am bringing a couple of friends to Asia on my next trip and they are definitely bigger than 5'6" so thanks for the info on leg room.
I am not sure if United would be around very long if its unions would not agree to reduce their salaries and benefits again.

While I am certainly not trying to defend United Airlines or JAL I have found both experiences to be rather pleasant when flying NRT-BKK and back again. It is amazing how GREAT the service is on the Asian airlines and I guess United has to compete so there level of service in Asia is way better than in the states. My next trip I'm flying Korean Air from Atlanta to Seoul and then on to BKK. My first time to make the entire trip in coach. At 6'4 and a few pounds above where I should be I'm dreading this trip. To make it even worse Korean will not pre-assign seats until you show up at the airport. Yikes. Might be my last trip across the water in coach.

Get there early and reserve your seat. I believe, for an international flight, you are suppose to check in 3 hours before departure. It gets boring sitting around the airport, but if you get there early you should be able to get a good seat.
What aircraft do they fly out of Atlanta?

Last friday flew into BKK (China Airlines) new Airbus equipted with a camera on underside of fuselodge so passengers can get pilot view through out flight. The pilot made the approach to BKK to the wrong runway and had to abort landing. In view of all passengers. People got really nervous.

just flew in china airways from ams, was a big fight with some french people and a thai women who had drunk half a bottle of jw black, rememberable flight

to be honest im not sure,im not much of a airoplane buff, as long as it has two wings and lands ok I dont care. It did not seem so new,
it was not that clean put it that way the misses was making comments, and some of the pretty stewerdeses
were loosing their rag when dishing out the food.
i suppose stupid conversations every day in many languages about chicken or fish can play on the nerves
the fight was hilarious, three stewerds tried to pin this women down, she kept geting up and kicking and screaming, free show for all.
must be terrible for the people just doing their job though,
they are pretty stingy on in flight drinks, but anyone can buy a bottle of duty free schotch, and guzzle it down.

I guess the "service" must vary from flight to flight and airline to airline. China Air (Taiwan) has a horrible safety record, but if I didn't know that, and based on my experience with their competitors, I would pick them over EVA, a very good airline, and, in coach, over Cathay Pacific, an outstanding airline. I think I've flown all the Asian Airlines that fly out of my local airport except Singapore Air. Singapore Air would be, based on their reputation, my first choice, but they will only route you through Singapore, making a already long flight 4 hours or so, longer than necessary. Pay your money, take your chances, I guess.
