DELAYS
I have only read last 2 threads (#20 & 21) - so don't know if this has already been covered....I was at BKK Int Airport 03/03/08 - and because of dramas at Air Asia and Immigration nearly missed my fright.... Arrived at Air Asia counters at 1:30pm. Flight was for 3:30pm.... Huge delays... (took 45 min to reach top of counter). Complained to supervisor - he said its usually worse - because on the day of my flight they had 3 counters open - when its usually only 2!! (For the BKK-KL flight)

Next I front up to Immigration and its shot to bits. Up to a thousand or more waiting processing. (Time is now 2:40pm when I decide to Holla for 'help' - well as much help as you would expect in LOS.

Was 'rushed' through the Diplomats Counter - ran right through the airport to gates F - further dumb delays at final gate check/scan, get on plane at 3:10pm. A bit later flight now closed - 12 passengers' bags pulled off - and out we go....

I say there is something definitely screwy at Air Asia and at Immigration at BKKIA and the place (as shinny as it looks), can not be trusted to function normally.

Came in a coupla days back, everything was fine except that the immigration queues were huge, took nearly an hour to get through.
Midday was packed, a lot of flights.

The rest was a breeze, bags no problem, duty free AFTER the immigration too, plenty of taxis right outside the door.

Report from The Nation dated Saturday 29 March 2008 :-

Speed train to Suvarnabhumi Airport commences early next year
================================================

The Airport Rail Link, which will connect Makkasan Train Station to Suvarnabhumi Airport, is expected to start operating in the first quarter next year, said an official who is involved with the project.

The construction works are expected to complete by the end of this year and the test run will last three months. Then, the train would start the commercial operations.

Does the Don Muang or Suvarnabhumi Airports have a long term baggage storage/locker room?

Looking at flying into Suvarnabhumi and next day taking a flt to PP for 4-7 days, but don't want to lug all my baggage.

Any info on baggage storage at either airport??

Man, looking at 12000 baht airfare to PP with Bangkok Air and right around 5800 on Air Asia.

Airfares are definitely on the rise, don't see it getting any cheaper. Would do a overland trip to PP, but limited time and hate dealing with border police and rip-off taxi / bus drivers.

Mr Alan
There are 2 left luggage (storage) counters at the Suvarnabhumi Airport

Level 2 Arrivals - The Left Luggage Counter is located on the Level 2 (Arrivals) - near the escalator - behind EXIT 4 area.

Level 4 - Departures - The Left Luggage Counter is located on the Level 4 (Departures) - near the entrance of Entrance 4.

Storage charges:
- Each item deposited will be charged at the rate of THB 100.00 per 24-hour period.

Don Muang certainly had a Left Luggage counter before Suvarnabhumi Airport began operating, but I don't know for sure about the present status.

You are welcome.

Thanks for the info. 2 bags per day at 100 baht per (200 baht) over 7 days or 1400 baht total. No bad, but not good...........was hoping for a 100 baht locker in which I could put 2 bags (cheap charlie).

Price still worth it, as I won't have to lug around all my shit for a seek and destroy mission to PP.

Did they ever move the Taxi stand to the arrivals floor? I am coming in a couple weeks. I remember last time you had to go downstairs, but I read that it was supposed to be moved to the arrival floor.

Chicken, it is on arrivals floor. Turn left after going through customs and go all the way down to (I think the) end door (ie, exit baggage reclaim, turn left, walk forwards, then turn right to get out of the arrivals hall).

The taxi rank is not very well signposted, but such signs as they are say 'public taxi'. Just ignore all the 'limousine' signs and touts.

If you want to get cash, there is an ATM just in front of you as you exit customs. This is the best one to use, as it is in the small area which is passenger only, so you're likely to get less attention from touts. My advice is: get an amount out which is however many thousands and 400 (eg 1400, or 3400 or whatever) so you'll have small notes to pay the taxi. And take the highway to Bangkok, unless you are arriving between about 2 and 5 am - it is, I think, about 70B, and well worth it (payable to the taxi driver, by you)

If you want a smoke, you can take any of the exits and keep walking in the same direction stated above, just outside in the hot muggy Bangkok air. Again, just ignore the touts, with their smiles, their assumptions, their 'where you go?' and their 'taxi this way's. Public taxi is metre + 50B (all of which you pay the driver).

Hope this helps, sorry if you knew most of it already!

China Sailor
Last week the taxi queues were at Door 4 and Door 8. They used to be at Door 5 but this door is now secured...
