Jingjo I like to give my input about this but I will not, I can't stand politics, they are all a bunch of greedy bastards who care more about themselves instead of the country they are running.
Thailand has had it's problems with the Reds and yellows but hey, what country doesn't have problems, no country isn't perfect.
i just see it as Thailand going through a change, Thailand has great lovely people so goes the saying the Land of smiles but Lovely people do get pissed off.

With all the grief going by taxi why not take the bus, climate controlled, reclining seat, 'luxury' coach, and no 'jackboots' to harass you

Report from Bangkok Post dated Wednesday 23 September 2009 :-

Seven arrested for luggage theft
=========================

Security has been tightened in the luggage sorting area at Suvarnabhumi airport following the arrest of five employees and two security guards who have been accused of stealing more than 100 valuable items from passenger bags.

Torsak Ningsanont, deputy director of Suvarnabhumi airport, said security has been increased in the area to curb luggage thefts.

Airport authorities had asked officers at the Police Region 1 Bureau and Rachathewa police to investigate the thefts following numerous complaints. This led to the arrest of the seven on Sunday.

The five employees taken into custody were identified as Ruangwut Aromyen, 27, Khanit Nikatanond, 25, Nithat Jaemsri, 28, Thongchai Banyaem, 29, and Kraisorn Sirichom, 25.

The two arrested security guards were Weerasak Kaewpa, 31, of Chubb Aviation Security Co and Arthit Janthasen, 35, of MPA Securitrust Co.

They are believed to have worked as a team.

More than 100 stolen items were seized from their houses. Among the items were 37 mobile phones, cameras, watches, notebook computers, gold bracelets and necklaces and banknotes.

Nod for Suvarnabhumi police station
===========================

A proposal to set up a special police station inside the Suvarnabhumi airport has been approved in principle by a committee for solving problems at the airport and improving the service, deputy police chief Watcharapol Prasarnratchakij said on Friday.

Pol Gen Watcharapol announced this after a meeting of the committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban.

The proposal was made by Pol Gen Watcharapol and strongly supported by Mr Suthep at a previous meeting of the committee, set up to handle the problems of unlicensed taxi drivers and tour guides and other crime at the airport terminal and the entire 20,000 rai facility.

Pol Gen Watcharapol said it was initially agreed that the station would be manned by 280 police from the Central Investigation Bureau and Tourist Police Division. About 1,000 guards employed by Airports of Thailand (AoT) would be made police assistants.

He said this matter would be forwarded to a meeting of the Police Commission in two weeks for discussion about the allocation of a budget and personnel.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand and AoT would be asked to help with financial support for the airport police station.

Pol Gen Watcharapol believed that the new police station would make tourists feel safer.

Suvarnabhumi has been plagued with problems ranging from baggage theft to extortion of tourists. The gigantic facility comes under the supervision of Samut Prakan's urban Racha Thewa police station, which has just 200 staff.

Foreign travelers who had been detained on suspicion of shoplifting inside the terminal - some in dubious circumstances - had complained of fearing for their safety when taken from the airport to Racha Thewa police station.

Pol Gen Watcharapol had earlier said, to back up his proposal, that between 80,000 and 120,000 people pass through the airport every day but Racha Thewa station can send only 50 police to keep law and order.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Thursday 8 October 2009 :-

German firm picked to run airport rail link
==============================

An overseas company will operate the express rail link to Suvarnabhumi Airport for the first few years of its operation, the State Railway of Thailand says.

The SRT union has opposed a plan to set up a subsidiary to operate the service, so an overseas contractor would be hired instead, SRT governor Yuthana Thapcharoen said yesterday.

DB International GmbH, which is installing the operating system for the railway link and training staff, would be hired to run the service as well, he said.

The link is scheduled to open in April. Mr Yuthana said the SRT would need over 500 million baht from the government as a start-up fund to run the Airport Rail Link.

The sum will cover management costs, insurance for trains and passengers, and the cost of running the railway stations.

The governor was among passengers who went on an unofficial trial run of the rail link yesterday. The SRT handed out free tickets to the public.

Further trial runs will be held on Oct 14, 21 and 28 and Nov 4, 2009. Daily trial runs will be held from Dec 5, 2009 to April 2010.

Mr Yuthana said passengers on the test run from Makkasan station to the airport gave the service a thumbs up.

Shredded Wheat
My recent experience on arrival at the airport are:

* wanted a dump after a long flight but difficult to find an unoccupied cubicle. It took visits to 3 or 4 different toilets before I found an unoccupied cubicle.

* long queues at immigration despite all the desks being staffed. Queues moved slowly.

* the immigration officer gave me the incorrect number of days for my visa type. She only gave me 30 days although I entered with a non imm o visa, multiple entry. I pointed this out to her and she apologised and changed it to 90 days. But if I had not noticed then I would be doing my first visa run earlier than expected. (Still a little worried that all she did was cross out the original date for 30 days and write in a new date for 90 days - I could have done that myself. I wait to see what problems, if any, this causes for me when I make my first renewal.)

* no problem finding my bag - I waited at immigration so long that my bag had already been taken off the carousel and was with some others classed as leftover baggage from my flight. Just got there before the porter loaded it up and wheeled it away, presumably to some unknown destination.

Public Taxi Stand at Suvarnabhumi
=========================

Flew out of Suvarnabhumi on my way to Phuket on 24 September 2009. Before I left, I went down to arrivals to check where the public taxi stand was in relation to the Domestic Arrivals exit, so I could head straight there when I returned from Phuket.

On returning from Phuket on 31 October 2009, I headed straight for the public taxi stand that I had seen earlier on my trip outside on the arrivals level. It was nowhere to be seen. Looking down towards International there were no desks there either. Asked one of the ladies marshalling the trolleys and was told it that the public taxi stand was on the floor below.

So the taxis were back on the lowest floor again, same floor as the shuttle buses. AOT drive me nuts!

Incidentally, the taxi I eventually got was a heap of shit. Was I just unlucky or is a different standard of taxi sent to domestic rather than international? I have had poor quality taxis before from the airport, but never as bad as this one.

Yep metered taxis found at bottom floor.... the main Bangkok area cab companies use Toyota Corrolla's... its a hit or miss in the supply Q as to newer clean models to ride in and most have LPG tanks hogging the back trunk... forget about the old 90s Volvos hanging round the hotels as VIP cars... Toyota Camrys and Mercedes C or E class are the way to be treated

Pattaya runs have been in ForeRunners, Camrys, Volvos, Jeep, Mazdas... and death mobile 90s Corrolla's or Nissan Sentras driven by friends teen age son....
Mini busses suck....been in several hair bender accidents too... one flipped on its side out of U-Taipao... tossed around no one hurt in the farm ditch... driver going to fast and tired... another minibus came by and helped

The airport actually did something else intelligent, instead of having a security check point way down by your gate, they moved it so you pass through on your way home right outside of the passport control counters.
