I flew out on Saturday.
Caught the BTS at Nana Station at 18:10. Reached Phaya Thai Station at 18:30.
Caught the (Express) train to the Airport (Airport Rail Link) at 18:35 - be careful, there is also a slow train.
Reached the Airport just before 18:55.
There were no queues, either at Check-in or security. I was inside around 19:20.
Seventy minutes to get from Nana Station to within the departure area: I find that excellent.
Notes: 1) I left very early (my flight was at 23:55) because I'd experienced long queues at Immigration on the way in, and didn't want to stress (besides, it was raining that evening, so I thought I might as well kill time at the Airport). I cannot vouch for later in the evening.
2) I was very lucky with the connection at Phaya Thai station.

Airports security stepped up

Security at all airports under the Airports of Thailand has been stepped up following the car bombings in Yala and Hat Yai city in Songkhla on Saturday, AoT president Anirut Thanomkulbutr said on Sunday.
Mr Anirut said Level 3 security is in force at Hat Yai airport and whether it will be lifted to Level 4, the highest, will depend on various circumstances.
No airlines had cancelled flights to Hat Yai after yesterday's blast, he said.

Does anyone know if International Arrivals at Suvarnabhumi on a Thai Business Class ticket, has the fast track facility. I know First Class have the golf buggies and Fast Track, but previoulsy Business Class had to queue with everyone else..... I was told that due to the longer lines recently, Thai have started giving out Fast Tracks to Business Class passengers.... does anyone have any recent knowlege of this ?

Romeland. Always have been given a fast track with Thai when travelling business class. Get given it when they hand out the immergration card. Cheers. K

Looks like a solution might be in the wings....
Thai nationals are not going to be checked by an officer but a scanner
So there goes 20% of the cue.
Why not included terrorists,sex tourists, and drunks with agressive fat wives?

just like when the Sky Train first opened (I was there...December 1999, my first trip to Thigh Land, haha), they will need to have special employees by each scanner to show the Thais how to use them...guaran-f***ing-teed, haha

I wonder what this means for foreigners who go through immigration with their Thai wives? Skipping the foreign line coming into Thailand saved us at least 45 minutes. I understand the lines to leave Thailand are even longer.
I believe these scanners are supposed to be installed and working around April 16th. Anyone with first hand knowledge of how they are working is encouraged to report.
And, I wonder what they do with the paper arrival/departure slips? Thais are required to complete them as well as foreigners. The article suggests that Thais won't have to complete them anymore.

traveling business class on thai is the best deal for departures from the airport. you get a liveried bellboy at curbside (conveniently the first drop-off point as you arrive), who'll cart your luggage through vat refund (if you so desire) and then all the way back to the separate hassle-free check in counters, where you are checked in by courteous, smiling (and often cute) female staff while seated (and they are very accommodating about excess luggage up to 10kg beyond the 40kg limit). dedicated immigration is a breeze to fly through, and you pass through directly to the entrance of duty free shopping or take a handy escalator straight down to the very relaxing business (and first class) lounges. the thai airways complimentary spa is right next to it and is extremely clean and relaxing... and i've seldom ever had to wait for my turn. the short massage is very professionally delivered (head, back, or feet... you have a choice!) and ideal for getting over any travel anxiety or tension.
all in all, by far the best and most stress-free experience flying out of any country, one that makes you want to return just so you can leave again!! that's very smart marketing/design/service that other airports and airlines need to really learn from. in fact, thai's ground service is probably better than what you get on the plane (inflight meals, surprisingly, are never more than adequate, even on long-haul).
the only downsides: the vat payment window is too far off to one side of the duty free area from where you enter; lately, the spa has been getting crowded (altho the wait is never more than a few minutes while you're pampered with beverages) ; and the lounge has discontinued its left-luggage room, so you have to tote your stuff around with you if you go shopping or to the spa.

On 24th March at 1PM, on 31st March at 8.45AM,and on 5th April at 5.30PM I went through Immigration at the Airport on each occasion in all of 5 minutes.
Every station was manned,mostly by Thai military personnel.
On this somewhat limited experience it would seem that long delays getting through Airport Immigration are over.
